Yeah, that's true. And I can't complain; every drawing I've ever posted here, even my scraps, have received comments.Β Β

I've seen some deviants on the forum page who are practically begging for comments.Β Β Β

Yeah, some people have to stoop to that level. It is a bit saddening...I mean, everyone can get comments if they know where to look.

Yeah, it's like I tell some of them; there are more than 30 million people on this site, if you want to get noticed, you've got to interact.Β
And even though I'm not a big fan of those who beg for comments, I dislike people who beg for points even more.Β
They're almost like deviantart's version of panhandlers.Β Β

It's as if they have no pride or shame..I don't know. It's strange when people do that, as if it doesn't reflect anything bad of them.

Out of idle curiosity, what do you think of Llamas?
They're nice to get, but I don't see any other practical use for them.Β

3wyl In reply to midnightgravedigger [2015-03-03 18:55:02 +0000 UTC]

Llamas on DA, you mean? I've actually disabled notifications for those.

Yeah, there's no practical use, really...just for fun! You can also win some if you are lucky, via the llamatrade .

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midnightgravedigger In reply to 3wyl [2015-03-05 03:37:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I often think people who give me Llamas just do it so I'll take a look at their deviant page when I thank them for the Llama.
Oh, that's something useful to know; thanks for the info.Β Β

BTW there's been a lot of chatter about you on the forums page. You've obviously made a pretty strong impression on a lot of other deviants.Β Β

I feel the same way with and s and so on.

But yeah, I have disabled notifications for badges, so I don't get any notifications now.

I like to think I have, as I was there for three years moderating, but it's time to move on. I imagine they'll move on themselves soon enough.

midnightgravedigger In reply to 3wyl [2015-03-10 23:20:11 +0000 UTC]

Do you get many faves or watchers? Most the watchers I've got are deviants I first started talking to on the welcome center forum.Β A lot of them eventually watch me and I usually return the favor. The watchers who make me laugh are the ones who add me to their watch list, but never talk to me. They just seem to come out of nowhere, and I think "who is this?"Β

What made you want to moderate? It sounds too much like work, but you're not getting paid for it.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to midnightgravedigger [2015-03-15 14:04:00 +0000 UTC]

I get some faves and watchers, but the watchers don't do anything, and most people fave for their own purposes...and selfish reasons.

The Welcome Centre Forum is great! I used to welcome everyone there, but then I stopped doing that.

Well, experience is a good thing to have, whatever the case. The reason why I wanted to moderate was because of the community, and because I wanted to make a difference.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midnightgravedigger In reply to 3wyl [2015-03-17 00:55:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I get people like that to. They watch me, but then I never hear from them again. As for faves, I fave stuff only when it's something I like it, and I mean a lot. Most of the rest of the time I just leave a comment.Β

Oh I'd never said hello to everyone, that would be way too many people. I just usually read the introduction the person has written, and if they sound like they could be someone I might have something in common with and would like to talk to I say hello. It doesn't always work out, but I've met most of the deviants I think of as friends that way.Β

Well that's a pretty good reason to do it, and also very commendable; but I honestly think way too many people here really don't want to get that involved.Β And I figure after a while you must eventually get burned out to.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to midnightgravedigger [2015-03-22 12:13:12 +0000 UTC]

I imagine everyone has a few inactive watchers! It is odd that these people would watch us and then we never hear from them again, though. There is something...slightly creepy about that.

Yeah, I rarely fave myself. I only fave news articles...it's rare that I fave an actual deviation.

That makes sense! It's pretty cool that you've met a lot of friends that way. When I posted there, I replied to everyone, just in case someone was great at conversation and so on. You meet a lot of people with similar interests, but they're not particularly good at conversation.

It sounds like a lot of people don't want to get involved, and there are many different reasons for that.

Yeah, burned out is not fun.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midnightgravedigger In reply to 3wyl [2015-03-26 17:38:18 +0000 UTC]

I've got one watcher who hasn't been active for more than a year now. We were talking for a while, but I have no idea where she's gotten off to since. Maybe DA was just a passing thing and she's done with it now.Β

Yeah, no one says you have to fave, it's a personal choice if you do or not. And I thing way too many people fave only to get attention.Β

How about you, have you stayed in regular contact with any of those you've met here?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to midnightgravedigger [2015-04-15 12:48:00 +0000 UTC]

Hasn't been active for more than a year? I guess the thing to note is whether they've been generally inactive overall, or whether they've been generally inactive just for you personally. The case with me is that most people are still active on DA - they just do nothing when it comes to watching me.

That is a shame, though. It definitely happens. Once, I talked to this person for a long while and we got on well online, but then...when we met up offline with a group of other people, it was really awkward, so we never spoke online or offline after that.

Perhaps that is the case.

Very true!

I have stayed in regular contact with some people I've met here, yes. Not a lot, but definitely some...main thing is to keep conversation going on, really.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midnightgravedigger In reply to 3wyl [2015-04-26 19:33:05 +0000 UTC]

Well according to the friends online feature, she hasn't been on site now for 72 weeks; so I'd sayΒ it's not just me. Β Β In fact after such a long absence I'm a little surprised she hasn't deactivated her account by now.Β Β

Sorry to hear you face to face meeting with that deviant go as well as planned. I guess sometimes meeting a person in the real world isn't quite the same as it is online.Β

I think that's the same reason a lot of people give Llamas to, they want you to come look at their page when you thank them for the Llama.Β Β

Yeah, it's important to keep a conversation going. Although sometimes those I chat with take a break for a few months or more, then suddenly they pop up again and we just resume talking.Β

BTW sorry about the delay getting back to you, it's been a busy two weeks.Β Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to midnightgravedigger [2015-05-24 10:56:31 +0000 UTC]

Oh dear...72 weeks is a long, long time, so...yeah, it's definitely not just you! I imagine that your friend is likely not going to be coming back?

I think most people just forget about DA, rather than actively deactivating themselves. It's quite the commitment to do that.

Yeah, sometimes real life awkwardness gets in the way of everything. =/

Exactly! The trick is to not go along with them.

I don't mind that, but then I do that myself...disappear a few months and then pop up again and just resume talking.

No worries about the delay! It's been a busy month for me too.

How are things?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midnightgravedigger In reply to 3wyl [2015-07-08 16:22:50 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I'm back; sorry about the long wait.Β

Yeah I've pretty much forgotten about her. I really should remove her from my list of friends because I don't think she's active anymore. But that's the way it is on DA, people seem to come and go all the time, very few Deviants stick around for the long term.Β

Right now things are pretty good. The weather here has been nice and warm, but not too hot, and it's cool at night. We have, however, been getting a little more rain than usual; but that hasn't been to much of a problem. And now that July is here, all the local summer festivals are starting to arrive to. We've already had one of our local art festivals called Art in the Park. It was pretty good this year. There were more than 500 artists displaying their work, there was live music being performed and there was also lots of food. Plus the weather was also perfect.Β

So how's your summer going so far?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to midnightgravedigger [2015-07-25 15:47:28 +0000 UTC]

Welcome back! No worries at all.

It's up to you, I guess. Personally, if a person isn't active, I don't see why they should still be on there, you know?

Yeah, it is the nature of an internet community, where loads of people come and go often. Only the dedicated stick around, and usually they have a reason to do so.

That sounds pretty awesome.

Ooh, sounds great!

I wonder if any of them were deviants...the artists, I mean. I do find it interesting when one coincidentally bumps into a deviant offline.

My summer has been going well. I've immigrated to the States now and I've just been applying for jobs and getting settled.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midnightgravedigger In reply to 3wyl [2015-07-31 21:31:34 +0000 UTC]

Actually it never occurred to me to ask if any of them were members of deviantART, so maybe some of them were.
You immigrated to the States ? If you don't mind me asking, where were you living before, and what brought you the the U.S.?
And how goes the hunt for a job, any luck there yet?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to midnightgravedigger [2015-08-16 14:00:44 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps! DeviantArt is quite huge, so who knows.

Yes, I am now a permanent resident of the United States. I was living in the United Kingdom before, and my husband brought me over. We actually met on this site.

No luck yet, no. I did approach a temping agency so I do have a temporary position, but...yeah, it's temporary, so not quite what I am looking for.

How are things with you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

midnightgravedigger In reply to 3wyl [2015-08-17 17:32:48 +0000 UTC]

You met him on DA and the two of you got married? Wow, I've heard of deviants getting together in person, but I've never heard of anyone getting married to someone they met here. You two must really have a lot in common, especially since he was in the US and you were in the UK.Β

Sorry to hear that the job hunt hasn't been going as well as you'd like. The economy is starting to slowly pickup, and the jobs are starting to come back again, but I think we're still recovering from that killer recession we just went through. So it might still be a little bit hard to find a permanent position somewhere. What kind of job were you hoping to get?

Well I'd say things here are going ok; a lot better than they were. At work we were shut down for a while because our primary client was doing a major renovation project in their factory and there wasn't any work; and it was also a little slow during the summer vacation season, but now we're starting to get busy again. PlusΒ I'm working on some art requests I got from a couple of deviants here.Β

How about you, doing anything art related?Β
