I've always lamented how one-sided they made Diamond Tiara in the show. They had a great opportunity to break the mold of the "arrogant bully daughter from a wealthy family" stereotype, but they chose to embrace that fully. I feel it's a shame that writers can't create characters with self-confidence and a healthy ego without making them irredeemable jerks. Rarity seems to be the only exception to this, maybe because she's a main character.

This show has a character like Diamond Tiara - Kimmy Meisner, the captain of Sherman High's cheer squad.
When she is first introduced she behaves like a stereotypical mean and shallow popular girl, she is callous, selfish, and manipulative. However, as the series progresses, it is revealed that she is, in fact, a nervous girl who feels trapped by the social requirements of the high school environment, believing she has to act and be ditzy and air-headed simply because she is pretty.
Kimmy gets a lot of great character development.
