Description

So it is finally done. The Howling maniac of the 14th Grand Company. No guesses how he got that nickname.

I managed some glowy parts on this one, blue because blue is a nice colour and it complements the yellow. also, eyes are without pupils for daemonic reasons.

Components used in this conversion were the plastic DP kit, leftovers from a Maulerfiend and the motor gondolas from a Messerschmidt 262-A scale model. And a huge wad of green stuff and some guitar wires.

Reddish tone to armour to represent Mark of Khorne.

He's got the cuddliest face, hasn't he?

Kaled is derived from the Arabic name Khalid (خالد) or Khaled which comes from khalada (trans: to last forever). Source: www.behindthename.com/name/kha…

Kaled is also an anagram of another breed of screaming maniac.

This is utterly disgusting to behold.

I'm truly appalled that you could make something so blatantly Chaos-y and not be overtaken by the Warp.
Kudos, m8; this thing's mad flash.

Thank you muchly! He was fun to plan, build and paint. I had him touched up a bit with blood splatter paint on his claws and on the ground too, as well as having it drool from his mouth (having munched on something).

Not giving a MC wings/jump pack in the current rules-set speaks of incompetence from the player, to be brutally honest. Flying DPs are relatively cheap beatsticks that cause massive damage when launched at the opponent. Just be certain to back them up, with things like Nurgle marked bikers or similar. Because THAT can't be ignored by the opponent.

Reminds me, I need to build some DISTRACTION!Mutilators...

Oj!

Damn. Now that's definitely one of the cooler deamon prince conversions I've seen from the plastic kit.

My only real problem is that the metal on the tentacles is a pit plain compared to the rest of the metal. But still an awesome model.

I have updated it a bit since this was shot. The tail tentacles got a red wash on the ribbing on the lower half and the face tentacles got a blood treatment, along with the claws, as I got my hands on Blood for the Blood God paint.

Heheh... we all love the genocidal dustbins, don't we?

The tentacles from the mouth and the from the head are guitar wires. I bought them online from a store in Sweden called JAM. I think you can make them from green stuff too using the "Tentacle Maker" here: greenstuffindustries.blogspot.…

Well, i guess with that cthuly-steel-tentacles the little rascal can't vocalize more than "Wharrgarbl" and howling.

The overall design, as well as the details and painting fit the Iron Warriors-scheme very well. Just the tails look a bit plain, being just metal.

I don't think he looks very khorny even with red washed metal parts. The red wash makes the metal look worn and unnatural instead. With the blue glow and not knowing he has the mark of Khorne i would think he had the mark of Tzeentch. IMO he is just not bloody enough to look khorny on the first view.

The painting itself is outstanding as usual. The flesh looks disgusting, sick und unnatural, the metal looks worn and stained, the transitions from flesh to metal look unnaturally naturally, and the glow is not overdone as many artists sadly use to paint glow. You even manage to make the yellow-black stripes not look shitty. And the base is nicelly detailed and "full", without being garish and distracting from the model.

The tail does look plain, but I was hard pressed to find something to do with it really. and if you say hazard-stripes I will hurt your hands.

I guess I could've had the glow be red, but that would have clashed with the rest of the model. I tried basing the skin over reddish brown to make that somewhat redder in tone. Red and yellow on a metal model doesn't end up well.

The one solution I can think of, and that I am seriously considering, is getting some Blood for the Blood God paint and use on the hands, splettering the claws and making it pool and run down the upturned left hand, as well as have it dribble from the face-tentacles, like drool, as if he's eaten someone's brains.

I'm unusually proud of the flesh colour. I wanted it to look alien but still as if it had blood pumping in those veins.

Grombald In reply to Belazikkal [2013-12-19 07:17:44 +0000 UTC]

I think red wash like on the other metal parts would do it for the tails. Maybe some details in brass. On a model of this size, hazard stripes on the tails would be to small and look odd, not to mention the pain they where to make

I guess, as long as you don't add Khorne-symbols, only blood would do it as marking a model to have the mark of Khorne. Like this new technical paint from GW. Unfortunatelly they didn't add a paint i could use for my slaaneshi army...

The red washed metal looks "alive" to me. Not blood stained but a little bloodshot. I suggest considering to use red wash on all models with "alive" metal parts, like demon-engines.

You have all reasons do be proud of the flesh colour. It's outstanding IMO. It looks alive, yet strange and fits a demon prince - a former human - much more than any colourful flesh.

The fiddling with the tail idea of yours gave me an idea. But as I am away from the home for the next few weeks, that will have to wait. I will however see if I can get my hands on some Blood paint. Be cause ideas I have many!

I'd call him to help move my couch. I like the flesh detailing with the forearms and hind legs. This has to be your best model to date.

Wow! Awesome!

I just don't like the tentacles coming out of his butt... much of a Slaanesh thing... but I bet nobody that ever made any joke about that survived enough to laugh...

Belazikkal In reply to orcbruto [2013-12-18 16:33:03 +0000 UTC]

The tentacle-tails came to be after I realised he'd look front heavy as it was.

And three tails was a nice allusion to the old lore about Iron Warriors having a tendency to operate in multiples of three, the Triarchs etc. Not to mention a sort of allusion to the three-headed guardian of Hades, Kerberos, seeing as the IWs come from Olympia~
