Personality

Abrasive - Impulsive - Efficient -Defiant

Gotta survive, isn't that mess enough for him?
He's missing the splendor and misery of bodies, of cities, of being missed.

Abrasive- Mateo isn't the friendliest dog. He is quite awful at communicating, and gets frustrated easily. He has very little patience with others, and prefers to work on his own. Many cannot stand him, and he is fine with that fact.
Impulsive-Mateo acts first, and asks for forgiveness later. If there's a lead he wants to follow, he's not going to wait and check with superiors. This tends to get him into trouble, but generally, his gut is spot on. Additionally, if he perceives a threat, he is quick to resort to violence, and is quite comfortable engaging others in this way.
Efficient- The CCD views this as Mateo's one redeeming quality. He's extremely good at what he does. He is driven, persistent, and unbelievably accurate. Mateo has a reputation, needless to say. Some hate him, others recognize his brilliance.
Defiant- Mateo is never satisfied with his position, always looking to climb. He has a very inflated sense of self, defiant, and doesn't take well to others belittling him or waving him off.

Ethically, he may not be right on point, but he always seems to get away with whatever it is he does. He quickly justifies his actions, and does this well.

Likes: Fame, Running, Taking down baddies, Flattery.
Dislikes: Privilege, Slackers, Being told what to do, Being stuck behind a desk, Having to wait.

"Man, the man is non-stop!"

Mateo's upbringing was not one of note. Born to impoverished immigrants, his life had a rough start. His parents loved him and his brother, but were too focused on simply surviving. These ideals transposed onto Mateo as he aged. His main focus in life was survival, that was all. He didn't take time to slow down and put stock into relationships, into education, into jobs. The only dog he cared for at this point, was his brother. This lifestyle got him and his brother into trouble, they fell hard into the gang scene. While there, he developed his fighting abilities, drive, and quick-thinking. He quickly became favored by the gang's boss, and worked as a bodyguard for him. His brother, on the other hand, began dealing drugs. This was the turning point for Mateo. After it was discovered that his brother was cheating the bosses, his brother died from a drug overdose. They told Mateo that it was an accident, however, he did not believe that for a second. Mateo believed that they had killed him, but covered it up as a drug overdose to keep Mateo subdued. That didn't last long, as he sought revenge. Before he could, however, he was picked up on criminal grounds by the CCDA. But, in the end, the CCDA offered him a deal to work undercover for them since he had the connections and they wanted to eradicate this gang. He eagerly took it.

Mateo eventually became a full-time investigator, dedicating his life to bringing down the drug trade, and gang scene in Boston. He moved swiftly up the ranks due to his ambition and drive, becoming a full-fledged Narcotics detective. He's quite good at what he does, as long as he can avoid direct contact with others. For years, Mateo was known as a protege of sorts by the CCDA, despite his checkered past. His ego grew larger than he could handle, though. He would get in trouble by his superiors for making unsanctioned calls out in the field. He stopped communicating with fellow investigators. He wasn't going rogue per say, but stopped acting ethically, seeking fast results.

As of recently, his tactics have been spotty at best. He has stalled in his performance, and his superiors are noticing. He's gaining enemies in and out of the CCDA. The pressure is definitely affecting him, and he's getting desperate. This struggle has forced Mateo to resort to drastic measures to salvage his reputation.
