For ... a pencil commission that got out of hand. I can't really go without color anymore, it's silly.It is of her totem creatures, surrounding a tree torch (a spiritual entity having a similar meaning to the Death card in Tarot - irrevocable change.)
I won't describe the animals and their significances, I guess that would be private. They are a hawk, a cat, and a hummingbird. (I started out with a different bird ref, but it sort of became specifically a red tailed hawk - a creature that lives near me and frequently terrifies me by having a wingspan that looks nearly the length of my arms which it uses to swoop suddenly out of overhanging trees.)
During this commission, I think I've decided I have at least one definite totem animal of my own. .... SPIDERS............ *loneisledruid described totem animals as being an environmental element that makes you stop and look and think, maybe giving direction. I have a lot of memories of spiders from every place I've ever lived. I stopped killing spiders a long time ago when I realized the crunch disturbed me a lot more than the actual spider. Since then, when I'm around other people, I don't see spiders much. But when I'm alone, I SEE DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF SPIDERS. D8 It's like I have become famous among spider kind. I am "girl without a shoe" or "girl without a paper towel".
"OH SHI- IT'S A HUMAN" ... "don't worry, it's girl without a shoe, she'll just walk away and leave us alone." ..................................... "Yep. There she goes. Let's hide behind this book before she comes back."
Spiders have even become quite brazen with me about what belongs to them :/ I have a favorite windowsill upon which I put cups. For a while, a spider inhabited that window. I poked it with a pencil. It flailed it's legs at the pencil in a threatening manner.
EXCUSE ME, I BELIEVE I AM A TOP PREDATOR, HERE. YOU CAN'T DO ME THE JUSTICE OF AT LEAST RUNNING AWAY?!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA speak of the devil. I went to go draw after posting this and there was one of those very large tawny spiders, sitting on my drawing supplies. OFF OFF OFF. >>>><<<<

You could alternately keep on.. catching them in cups and dumping them back outside...?
aah then my -totem- animal is probably not a cat then.
Perhaps a butterfly or some small bird then... for being directionless, easily distracted, waiting to suddenly transform into something less-useless, and for being flighty. lol
or maybe a squirrel for all of the above and for being chittery and running away from big scary things... and then coming back for free food. //shot// =w=
I see these critters all the time, and totally get distracted from whatever I'm doing or wherever I'm going just to watch them. every time. ahahaha

Hah, another person with Spider as a totem! MY house is full of them... guess who never gets bit? Yeah, the one who leaves them alone. Or at least just releases them to the outdoors when the arachnophobes flip shit.

I really like when it's something more behind a picture, like a story, and I loved to hear your spider story. I'm fine with spiders as long as I know where they are and not try to jump on me.
I think my totem animal would have to be a cat, sometimes behave like one, have been called a crazy cat, dreamt I was one and cats seem to like me. Once I lured a cat out by calling on it with the noises I learnt from two cats, you should have seen the cats face when he found out that I was the one making all the noise x3

I do, however, find it..very creepy/ironic/amazed that you did include a torch O_O. The most important part of my life (thus far) that involved these three together (the only time?), involved the dancing of two torches, that immediately blew out when the divination was done...and there was no wind or anything>.< To this day I'm still completely overwhelmed about how things turned out EXACTLY...as they were read to be.

XD fire was a lucky guess. But it's used in a lot of ceremonies ... like candles. They are so somber, both hopeful and fragile.

Great story about the spiders, kinda creepy too! I actually don't mind spiders, most people hate them ... its amazing just how many different sorts are around though, when you look at them. Some could even be classed as beautiful. Almost

I'm pretty spiders are more terrified of us than we them. We're what...100x larger? Poor things are just minding their business. And I don't think we'd like it much if someone came and squished us with a shoe.

I have a lot of spiders in my flat. Odd enough but spider isn't my totem.
I suppose my totems are a heron, a bird of paradise and a snake. I wish i knew what do they have in common..?

Wow, for some reason, I really like the colours in this picture O.O ♥♥ ...Maybe it's my soft spot for red-tailed hawks, too. They live near my area as well. So cool to watch them hunting. 8D

And also, your spider totem terrifies me yet.. amuses me at the same time. xD Nowadays spiders only bother me when they get in my sleeping space (bedroom, which applies to any insects, really).. I find I don't always pursue spiders at home when I'm downstairs. We now also have a large number of pretty orb weavers who never come inside the house and happily consume the bugs on our back patio. I like them - it makes me kinda sad that they die every winter. *random*
Totems are cool. I've felt more sure since I moved to the mainland that a totem animal of mine is the crow.. I have lived in 3 different places and every one of them has always been near or has been the site of where massive numbers of them gather and make a ton of noise. I imagine others find it creepy, but it's awesome for me.

I think a crow or raven (i can't tell the difference between them) would be a playful sort of totem to have. I've seen them leap off the sides of cliffs and do barrel rolls. They weren't chasing or being chased. Just flying fancy because why fly strait when you could do looptyloops.
