Description
This one is another one based on Campbell's work - Daoloth, the Render of the Veils. A not particularly malign god. In fact one fairly easily summoned. You don't even need to sacrifice anybody. But you DO have to do it in complete darkness, for the human eye strives to follow his outline, and that way lies madness.And what next? Chaugnar Fauhgn, the Horror from the Hills? The Keeper of the Moon-Lens? Something suitably horrific, feasting on the pile of dead pigs I dug up?

The Render of the Viels is a mythos story that I hesitate to accept as canonical. It is based on the premise that our senses cloak everything with illusion, because EVERYTHING is so innately hideous and horrible that all life HAD to evolve illusion to hide what everything really looks like. Two men invoke Daoloth to remove this filter of illusion, take one good look at what things REALLY look like -and go shriekingly insane ,murdering each other !
Being a mathematician, I THINK I can look at Daoloth . My critics say I am already mad !

I have a number of original books from Arkham House and one of these black hardbound books contains this -and many other original straight horror pieces. The movie about Dr. Tillinghast's pineal gland stimulator (clumsy pseudo-science)actually incorporates the entire original story in the footage that unreels BEFORE the Title and opening credits appear. Like "Reanimator" it uses starkly porno elements. Beyond X. I judge my analysis on reviews and synopses : I wasn't interested enough in a movie cut for commercials,etc., to spend time on it...
