Well, I erased the hair and started all over again. Does it look better?? Not good enough?? Die wavy hair!!! rrrrr... Waaannnh! At least Eowyn's hair will be easier *sigh*Related content

Ohh... Faramir... wow it's nice to see that you've included him. Most people only do the star of the movies, and not the characters that gave Middle Earth it's depth and history. Bravo!!
Oh I'd love to see you draw Boromir, the one everyone loves to hate, he's so misunderstood by the movie-goers. Ever since I first got to know him I loved his spirit and his valour, his love for Gondor, not his lust for power which was only brought on through the black evil of the ring.

Man, better and better. I'll criticise if that's ok with you, you seem to take it really well, and criticism is helpful. One thing though, me criticising doesn't mean I think I'm better at drawing than you, actually I think you're miles better - see how all the features are so carefully observed, shading and shape and everything? And you capture expressions so well, there's so much personality in each portrait......
So anyway, the criticism: Yeah, the hair..... hair is by far the hardest thing to shade - features need putting in the right place, the right shape, with the right shadows, but after that the nightmare is hair. It takes so long and it is so hard to make it look natural, curly, straight, no matter. You're going to get it though, with practice. Shade the shadows and leave the highlights, make it glossy, but you have to do it so slowly, strand by strand almost. That's about all I can criticise. The shading on his face is not perfect - the light and dark are all very well, you just need more of the in betweens, but that really doesn't matter as far as this pic is concerned; at first glance the only possible thought is "man, that's so good!" because of the brilliant draughtsmanship and feeling you can read on Faramir's face. It's a fantastic portrait. Keep on drawing!

Thank you! Yes, I think I've improved much on hair since then... You should have seen his hair the first time around!! I actually posted it here and got so many comments of "I'd love to see it finished!" Because they thought the hair was so sketchy... (I'm paranoid about wavy hair... it looked kind of like Pippin's does now... I still have to fix him

The portrait is great, I think the hair looks good, probably'll need a little bit more detail, but I know how hard wavy hair is! although is so beautiful (my hair is very wavy!

Wow, you are very good at realism!! ^_^. That is charcole right? It looks great. I gotta start working in charcole some bit more than I am, I actually just bought some charcole pencils to try. I basically only like to do my portraits in Pencil Crayon, but I am totally out of my special pencil crayons and I can't get any for a long time, and I refuse to work without em!!!

Actually, it's just graphite! It's a little lighter in real life, I made the scan a bit darker just to show the shading better. Thank you very much!

Well, the best advice in drawing portraits I can give you is, just go at it! lol. I just drew one one day and I was like, hunh, I'm actually pretty good at this!! lol... Practice practice practice

Yeah, that's cause I had to invent the top part and I didn't know what to do. I mean, from other pics of Faramir the waves don't start until farther down his head, but I know what you mean. I'm not entirely happy with that part...
