First Appearance - Handheld Pet Simulator ( 1996 )These little creatures come from these tiny, egg shaped, hand held games, that took the toy market by storm. I myself love virtual pets, and had a few Tamagotchi as a kid. I lost most of them... sigh. I sort of wish I still had one.
There were many spinoffs of Tamagotchi, including Digimon, which moved on to become a hit anime. There were also rip offs as well. Remember Gigapets, and Pocket Pikachu?
There were Tamagotchi console games...but I would never play one. They REALLY seem like they're geared towards kids.... and I only really liked Tamagotchi as a virtual pet.
Gawd I miss the old days.
I drew all of them from memory, except the yellow one and the Boo looking one. I used a magazine for reference on those. ( I thought the Yellow one was white? It was on the box of the virtual pet, right? ) ...
Ah... I did not make the "Sonicgotchi" up. There is a Dreamcast game that supposedly has one of those as an unlockable or something.
I always wanted to get the blue one with the black ears. I got it once, and it died really quickly. I got that snake like one alot...it died quickly. I got that blue duck like one once... it slept too much. But I like them when they're newborns.
The name means Egg ( Tamago ) Watch ...They don't use an I in the japanese.
I guess Chao gardens are always a nice alternative...

Think you were thinking about the Chao when you mentiond the "Sonicgotchi", cause all I remember is Chao with Sonic-like qualities int he VMU minigames.

True that there are Sonic Chao, but there really is a Sonicgotchi too... I think it was on a Sega Dreamcast Tamagotchi game...

I used to be so addicted to these...
I was always getting either the blue duck one or the green beaked one. I was always reaching for Mimitchi. ;_;

Aww it's cute! I remember seeing those on the box someplace. Also I remember seeing stuffed tamagotchi at walmart once, and That was one of them.

I used to have one too... I put in a new battery but it just doesn't work.
The blue with black top/ears is the one I wanted the most too, and I got it. I had it for about 40 days before he left.

I have the GameBoy game, but it's not exactly like the gadgets. They seemed to die a lot quicker/faster than usual, and it was really hard to grasp unlike the handheld egg gadget things.
Needless to say I never got far in it.

Yeah, a Friend of mine let me borrow his Gameboy game. But The Tamagotchi I raised died before I even got home.

They've released new Tamagotchi in the US, they just haven't got a lot of exposure.

I'd feel way too silly and embarassed to buy one for myself. Im 22 now ya know? I don't even know if they're as good as they used to be.
