6 x 9 inches watercolor on 140lb cold press watercolor paper. Colors used Permament Rose, Lemon Yellow, Ultramarine BlueThis is the first piece which was made to go on some baby shower invitations. They are made with influence to Beatrix Potter's artwork. I had a lot of fun and challenge making these. I worked out the poses, then I inked them with brown ink and colored them in. I have tried to avoid muted color palettes like this (don't have a good reason why) but I want to work witht them more, I like the results.

I am a huge fan of Beatrix Potter and your work here certainly shows her influences, but that is not the only reason that I enjoy this piece so much. First you have your own style and stamp on this picture and I appreciate the muted coloring that gives it a Victorian touch, as well, I do admire the detail you have given attention to. This picture holds so much eye appeal and a nostalgic air of a gentler time.

I really like this piece. You have some great paintings that could be illustrations in childrens' books. I read that you are emulating Potter, but you are doing very well and I hope you keep up the good work. We can learn a lot by imitating others' style and then using what we learn in our own fashion, I think.

I love the color palette on this one, the muted shades really work well with the quiet tone this piece gives off. The composition is well balanced by the oval paintings on the wall (even though I'm not sure momma squirrel is a full 3/4 squirrel

I'm really digging the muted palette, I am going to be careful though of getting "dark." I'll work more of these with the Ultramarine Blue but will do a couple outdoor pieces with some light but dull greens that Beatrix used so beautifully. More to come!
BTW, I thought we agreed a 5/8 animal was okay.

I chose to ignore your "5/8 squirrel" limit as it was so obviously not enough. Everyone knows you need to show at least 6/8 of a squirrel for it to be non-freaky.

Thanks! Muted, in this case, means "not bright, bold colors" kinda the opposite of anime color. xD
