Description Since apparently our neighbor's cats are aware.... that for the first time in 32 years Bob and I do not currently have a of our own... they are enjoying dropping by our back door on hot days for a hand-out

This is Comet
He is an older male who was first introduced to us, years ago by our daughter's outside female cat named Jasmine. I'm not sure just how old Comet is... but, the devine Miss Jasmine has been gone on to the next great adventure since May of 2003... and I don't think Comet was a young man even then.
His owners report that he is an excellent mouser, and will even tackle rats and brings them home... for praise, of course! and lines them up, by type ... i.e. mice in one line by the door... and rats in another!

Comet is an unusual cat... who enjoys going out in very cold weather We can usually count on seeing him at our backdoor, in the wintertime... especially if there is snow or ice on the ground... and the temperatures are down in the single digits *brrrrr*

Lindsay's Jasmine kitty was a very tough old female who allowed NO other cats in our backyard... so when she brought Comet to meet us we were definitely impressed! Jasmine also taught Comet how to correctly "bump" the back storm door... in just the right way to get my attention, when I'm busy working

Comet was one of the two "weenie cats" that I referred to in this deviation

and here's "weenie cat number two" ~

since I just realized that "weenie" has various meanings please rest assured... that in this instance, I am using American slang that refers to being silly, humorous, amusing, goofy, etc.

Β I still think about Comet quite often. Β I hope he has lots of squirrels to hunt in kitty heaven.

He was a little over a year old when Jasmine brought him over by my guess based on what Addie said to me. Not sure when that was tho...

This is a really good capture of his "Cometness".

I need to go shower...

I enjoyed your story about the water hose and Larry, but I laughed a lot with Comet's rat and mice sorting at the door !
I was also so surprised that he liked the outside cold... my cat runs towards our fireplace as soon as he hears that we are starting to light it !
He tries to be outside in winter, but we know he will be asking to be allowed in again about.... 5 seconds after he was released!

Cool stories again, Alice... (and those Caladiums are gorgeous! I've seen them here in Uruguay!)

I'm so glad Manny! Sometimes I wonder if anyone actually wants to read all the stuff that I'm willing to put in the artist's comments but... honestly deviations that don't tell anything about where or why the shot was taken... just drive me I always enjoy the story behind the art!!

Yes we've never had a cat who liked the cold, either... and when Little Guy was still alive, he would look at Comet at the back door (when there was snow or ice or 4 degree temperature outside), like Comet was some kind of alien invader! They used to hiss at each other from either side of the back door (inside & out) as their way of greeting each other When Misha (Little Guy's sister) was still alive... she loved Comet and would stand at the open window (on the storm door) and sniff at him for hours in the Springtime after Little Guy got tired of watching her for awhile... he would go over to the door, and hiss at Comet... just to try to get his sister's attentions back again

Caladiums are a warm climate bulb that can be grown most anywhere, and if raised in a pot (like I do mine) ...you can bring them in when it freezes... and so they will continue to grow in the house! If the ground does not freeze hard in Uruguay, you can merely leave them in the ground... and they will produce beautiful leaves year round. If the bulbs get really happy... they produce an interesting looking bloom called a spathe, that is designed to be propagated by some tropical dwelling fly or bug... unfortunately, we don't have any tropical bugs here!

I guess you ask yourself the same question I ask myself.
I am also such a comment writer when I post!

But people are usually in a hurry, fave thumbs and run.
I do that only when I return from vacations haha! No
other way to get updated...

ArenΒ΄t catΒ΄s just amazing? My Chobi is also quite a character.
He sleeps in my daughterΒ΄s bed every night... and when she
studies, he STAYS in bed, with his head on her pillow, covered
with sheet and blanket...

In Uruguay we donΒ΄t have ice nor snow. The ground NEVER freezes!
I usually keep all my plants outside. They are sad inside...
I donΒ΄t think we have tropical bugs either hahaha!!!

Apparently we're feeding the neighbors' cats too...cause it'd be a shame to let all that unfinished cat food to go to waste But when they can't find any, they go for the dogs' dishes

well, Comet and Larry know that we're suckers and would rather share our scraps with the outside critters, than put them in the trash

Well then we're suckers too, cause that's what we do

cats know a sucker when they find one I am feeding my neighbourhood cats myself! and hedgehogs, birds and whatever else comes when I am sleeping

LadyAliceofOz In reply to ottomatt [2010-06-26 20:20:27 +0000 UTC]

Of course they do!
Bob & I are big time suckers and figure that anything of a food nature... that we might otherwise end up putting into the trash... might as well be enjoyed by one of the outside critters Unfortunately, Comet and Larry show up soooooo often that we've now gone to sharing things that aren't already trash!

Thanks for the Jackson! I really appreciate it!
