Description It's been a while, it seems like I am a little too busy these days and little time and energy is left to devote to art. BUT! When I can, I still do because art is life.

So a while ago I got acquainted to yet another sideress too beautiful to pass by.... in fact, she is probably the most beautiful sideress I've seen. I have a thing for this silver fur, it's simply magical. I couldn't resist the urge to draw her and I knew it's just a matter of time. So the next time I sat at my desk pondering what do I feel like drawing that will be easier, less engaging and more leisury, I decided to start with her. Hmmm, did I say leisury? That's how envisioned it. You know, white fur, in fact very light and pleasant to draw, much less time- and effort- demanding than any dark solid color. HOWEVER, I did not quite take into account the fact the silver sheen of her fur complicates things a bit.... and even more so I did not foresee how my own mind would complicate things even further. Because I cannot simply draw a beautiful silver sideress, can I now? I have to draw her in lighting that is complicated and very difficult to even imagine, let alone render in full color. Well, I figured, she is too beautiful and the lighting had to be also fittingly so. My mind was instantly ready with the idea: the warm, pink-fiery-golden light of an early winter morning. One of the most beautiful things I can envision. Therefore, perfect....
In theory.... I know what colors that should incorporate and how they should blend and work together.... but the practice was a whole different story. This took much more focus and attention and skill than I had planned for my "leisure" drawing. Was it worth it? TOTALLY. Such a light is not easy to draw, but it is very pleasant regardless, and very rewarding in the end. That said, it took many passes of going over the fur and adding shades and colors, and for the most time I was not sure I would really manage to pull what I had started and envisioned. But towards the end, finally, the portrait began to look like what I wanted it to be. I guess at this point I just go with it, trusting my skills to do their job.

By the way, one of the difficult things was actually to figure a pose. I had started with another composition at first, but it didn't quite capture what I wanted. So I did what I always do - I went looking for feline pictures (as often happens, lionesses) to discover what pose and angle and look on the face convey the emotions I was going after. The emotions that feel to me convey her personality and spirit. I found two that gave me the general idea - one for the look and one with the brilliant idea to have her rest her head on her paws and look at me that way. After that I opened the 3D model, got the right angle, made a screenshot and used it as reference ever after. That, and some actual winter morning pictures for lighting mood.

That's the point to finally uncover who she is, that has to do with the 3D model.
As you may know from some previous (black) drawings, I have a 3D model of Håkan's head shared with me kindly by Jayme.
I had long figured I can use the same model to draw not only his, but also another portrait. Because .... he really has her features.

So.... this is Leira. Håkan's mother. I wanted to draw her for a long long time, ever since I first saw her.
But the truth is, she isn't just physically beautiful. She is also a very spirited being, a wise and caring soul.

I hope you enjoy.

I keep being amazed by this portrait of her. You probably remember my first reaction when you showed me on the cam - that reaction is still there.

You managed to put SO much Life in this drawing; this really shows her true soul. That short life that we know and that Håkan remembered hardly affected the strenght of her soul and you managed to just reflect that in her eyes and just her whole posture.

Even the light matches with the feeling/impression that I get from her; warm, wise and strong.
You know that I'm not somebody of many words and this drawing underlines once again that some things cannot be expressed through words; this drawing shows Leira far beyond words.

Few words, but very meaningful and touching.... precious. My feeling of her was very subtle and I was afraid it may be insufficient, that I may not portray her spirit well. So I am very glad this is not the case, that I managed. Thank you

Well, I would say the focus, attention and skill really paid off - the lighting in stunning! I love the colors you used, with the bright sunlight contrasting the shadows, and then again the green eyes... She has a very tender look to her. "Wise beyond her years" is also a phrase which strikes me when looking at those eyes... A beautiful being, both physically and spiritually.

It's much harder than it looks if you wanna do it properly indeed, because it is so very reflective. But I still find it in a way more relaxed to do (on white paper) than color fur because the paper really works for you when drawing white. It's just the shades are so complicated.... XD Thank you so much!
