Description I asked [link] if I could do a color job on this drawing of his...[link] He said yes, so now here it is. Big thanks to Von Toten himself, whose drawing was very fun to work on and easy to get along with in Photoshop.

oha, that's an interesting colorization, I like the blue/orange/reds contrast. I do think though, that on some elements you should have used less of a gradient and more of a hard shade instead. Just to give the figure a more solid look.
I was quite surprised by its different style first, until I read your description

but yeah, nice work, of both you and the lineart artist

I guess it does feel a little soft in places. Good advice. And thanks for the comps!

You're most welcome

How have you been, anyway? Haven't talked to you in a while (and sorry for not commenting much on your works, lately, I seem to get buried under messages and I am actually painting quite a lot, too).

I'm doing alright. Sorry I haven't raided the forums in a while either, I haven't been spending as much time on the internet in recent weeks. I dig the last couple of pieces you put up.

Very nice. You do the geometric style VERY well. It has alot of depth that most geometric style toons lack.

Ohh you colored this one? hah my bad. The coloring still is damned sharp and again helps bring out the depth of the drawing.

Oh wow, this is amazing! Your colouring works really well with his style. I think my favourite parts are the chains, and then the incredible shading on her face- it has so much dimension! I really, really like his edgy style, and how your colouring not only compliments it but brings it to life. Rock on!

At first I resisted taking on this picture because I didn't know if my coloring would accomodate the edgy drawing style, but after a while I decided to give it a shot anyway. I'm pretty happy with it, although I've felt like something's been missing since I uploaded it, but I don't know what.
I colored all the metal like blue steel, but the coloring was kinda boring until I threw in some patches of purple and green to add variety, it feels ok to me now. I'm glad you like it, and thanks for commenting!

Thanks! You can do that if you want. In fact if there's anything you specifically want colored you can always let me know. I could see us doing something marvelously psychedelic together.

Ooo...pretty. Great job with the colors--I love the warm vs. cold contrasts.

Thank you! I kinda imagined her being in some dark enclosed place during sunset, so I pushed the blues and oranges a lot. I also tried something different this time, using both warm and cool shading. Usually I make all my shading one way or another, but I decided I'd try combining them, placing warm shading where the daylight was hitting her directly and cool shading where she was in the darkness, and then fusing them together for extra darks. I think it makes the lighting seem more natural.

That's a good point on the natural lighting. I'm going to have to try that in some of my own work, once I actually figure out how to present lighting effectively.

Somewhat off the subject--your lighting reminds me of the recent live-action Peter Pan. Most of the lighting in that film is either very warm or very cold. It makes for a good cinematic effect.

I take that comparison very favorably...I thought that movie was absolutely beautiful. It probably comes the closest I've ever seen in a movie to looking like a living painting, at least in terms of fantasy illustration.

That's wicked, nice color selection. Interesting inking style he used, it's all very straight edge and blocky.

I believe he did this in a vector program...correct me if I'm wrong Von Toten...because when I received the giant hi-rez file from him I could examine the linework very closely and it looks like vector lines to me. I totally didn't think that when I first saw the drawing though. It takes a lot of skill to make lines as perfect as these appear like such a dynamic drawing.
