Description Media: watercolors, india ink, parker ink, and a strategically placed flashlight for the lighting (because my light still is broken...)

This is my entry for the Winter Contest that is hosted by Love-Your-OC !

This also is the very first time entering a contest, so I'm pretty excited!

I tried broadening my horizons a little more by a) using the largest paper I've ever used, that b) apparently is difficult for handling ink due to its large grain, and by c) mixing paints, which I tend to not do, and d) drawing both a kid and a slight background, which I also tend not to do!

It was challenging, yet it also was a lot of fun! I hope to practice stuff like this more in the future, too! I also tried to do a cooler color palette than the usual palette I use, which is rather warmly colored, but alas, it seems that I've yet to learn to escape earth-toned colors...! Maybe next time I'll do better in that regard! Working with cool shades never has been my affinity, so it'll be fun to try my best next time!

As for what's happening in this picture - and I'll finally share a little bit of the original plot:

It features two of my OCs from the original project I'm currently working on: Al and Adrian.

Before Al joined the garrison of the Lord-Commander Kingsguard, he used to work as scribe, and occasional shepherd whenever needed, on a large farm, together with some companions - amongst them a couple of children. Adrian, the oldest kid of the bunch, took a shine to Al and aspired to learn as much as he could from the older man- much to Al's surprise and amusement.

Although Al isn't much of a hunter, he does know how to set snares in order to capture rabbits, and in this picture he is trying to explain Adrian how to tie such a trap. It's winter, it's cold, and hot rabbit stew would be much appreciated at the farm. (Fun fact: Adrian is wearing an old coat that once belonged to the current lord farmer, which is why it is way too big for him. He may grow into it, but as for now he'll drown in its sleeves).

This is really great Maeve! I'm glad you're trying new things and entering contests! Get your art out there! I really love the painting I'm digging Al's pose all the clothes, varying shades and the expressions! Adrian is adorable, I hope they caught a bunch of rabbits! I also really like how you're including more of your story too!! I enjoy learning more about Al and his past especially, it seems like he had a pretty chill life there! I would really like to see more painting depicting this time in Al's life (and others too of course!) But I hope to see more Adrian as well (maybe a painting of what he looks like in the future when he grows into the coat! XD)

Beautiful painting, awesome characters and character development and awesome art in general! Keep it up!

Thank you so very much! ^////^ Your comment really made my day!

New things are always hard to start - I've still got to get the hang of the white gel pen, and I must admit that your art inspired me to get one for myself - but I think it's really fun too! I'll reveal that Adrian's trap will be a little too weakly bound to be able to ensnare a rabbit, but Al's got a fat one, so they'll be okay

I'm planning on revealing more backstory during some oncoming drawings, and I might finally put up some at the Bio, too! Your curiosity really motivates me to actually share more stuff, and your kind words make me not want to disappoint you with my stories! Thank you so much for your support!

Al's life at the farm was pretty chill indeed, and he had it pretty easy ^^ Adrian indeed grows into the coat, and it's one of his most prized possessions!

(IM GOING TO PAINT THAT - THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION )

I'll try my best! I hope to see more of your beautiful artworks soon, too! Hopefully all's well on your side of the screen! Take care of yourself, truly!

I'm so glad you have a white gel pen too! I'd love to see how you use it in different works! Did you use it in this one for the traps they're holding? If so it looks really nice! Aww Adrian's trap! Luckily Al got one though haha! I'd love to see what new you put up in the Bio page if you chose too, I'm always curious about your story and Al too! (Yes paint that!! It's super sweet how the coat is his most prized possession too!)

Same same my friend!
