This is my entry for the Winter Contest that is hosted by Love-Your-OC !
This also is the very first time entering a contest, so I'm pretty excited!
I tried broadening my horizons a little more by a) using the largest paper I've ever used, that b) apparently is difficult for handling ink due to its large grain, and by c) mixing paints, which I tend to not do, and d) drawing both a kid and a slight background, which I also tend not to do!
It was challenging, yet it also was a lot of fun! I hope to practice stuff like this more in the future, too! I also tried to do a cooler color palette than the usual palette I use, which is rather warmly colored, but alas, it seems that I've yet to learn to escape earth-toned colors...! Maybe next time I'll do better in that regard! Working with cool shades never has been my affinity, so it'll be fun to try my best next time!
As for what's happening in this picture - and I'll finally share a little bit of the original plot:
It features two of my OCs from the original project I'm currently working on: Al and Adrian.
Before Al joined the garrison of the Lord-Commander Kingsguard, he used to work as scribe, and occasional shepherd whenever needed, on a large farm, together with some companions - amongst them a couple of children. Adrian, the oldest kid of the bunch, took a shine to Al and aspired to learn as much as he could from the older man- much to Al's surprise and amusement.
Although Al isn't much of a hunter, he does know how to set snares in order to capture rabbits, and in this picture he is trying to explain Adrian how to tie such a trap. It's winter, it's cold, and hot rabbit stew would be much appreciated at the farm. (Fun fact: Adrian is wearing an old coat that once belonged to the current lord farmer, which is why it is way too big for him. He may grow into it, but as for now he'll drown in its sleeves).
