I wonder if that panel of Lugia taming a hurricane is something Robin has actually seen it do...

trumpet seems to be missing one of the little eye-hole things (two actually) on the top of her eye spaces. any specific reason, or is this to like...help us know which one is her?

It's mostly because I had a really hard time taking her seriously when she had four eye-holes because it makes her look perpetually surprised.

Hey, I'm glad you like it. I spent a few weeks plotting after finishing the run before I released the first page. Other than that, I didn't have any scenes or characters thought out beforehand, just the various headcanons I'd created/picked up over the last 15 years or so. See here and here for more info.

World building~
I definitely feel for the poor wishmur. Dante's perspective shows a lot about how this world works. It shows she's naive, but it definitely shows how people dominate pretty much everything. I just find it rather sad I guess. Especially with how Sammy is prety much saying they just have to accept it.
I love how he's trying to explain the PC though. It's like catch 22 trying to convey the meaning.

It's definitely a sad perspective, but remember, it's only the perspective of one person who has the mind of a 12-year-old.
Haha glad you enjoy the PC box.

Are they being destroyed, though? Is eight months of teaching and help and welcoming with open arms into a more technologically advanced society really 'destruction?' After all, most of the Whismur are gone; it's just these few bad eggs who would be put away.

Urrr ):
Civilisation happens. But responsible civilisations can work out how to build in such a way that they don't destroy the homes of the creatures and native people (because the pokemon here are very much native peoples, being sentient and having culture) around them. Hits close to home.
Being a responsible civilisation is very possible, the people within it just have to be retrained to not be so selfish (or at least to realise that they don't have to be selfish in the way that they instinctively are in regards to territory).
I'm super looking forward to seeing where your story goes. Every page you put up is just magnificent.
let me worship your art

~90% of the Whismur population willingly left after a long, money-wasting eight months of help and prep. Is that not being responsible? What if native people act unreasonable? Is it selfish to protect humans from being physically harmed?
And haha, thank you ;;

RocCenere In reply to Mewitti [2014-03-19 21:21:24 +0000 UTC]
It gets difficult there doesn't it? It is not selfish for anyone to defend themselves, and aside from the fact the tunnel is in the game etc, in some cases would it not be better to come up with alternatives. In the game they've drilled into a cave and are just trying to get through some cavern walls. Generally, at least in reality, we haven't had the luxury of large caverns to aid excavation. Technically, they could have just drilled through a rockbed that was uninhabited, probably would result in less threat of vibrations collapsing the cave anyhoo. Or build a soundproof, or vibration reducing wall and roof around the tunnel.
ANYWAY. That's a bit of a brain dump.
(You don't have to read this paragraph, heehee)
But it does get difficult, and it always will be. Because some people will want to work around a native population and others won't be willing to fund the costs of such a project.
How would one gauge an unreasonable reaction from a native? By who's standards are they unreasonable?
I am completely one who is all for working out the best result. The ideal would be preserving a native culture and the surrounding environment while also allowing a civilisation to operate to its maximum capacity.
It will be interesting to see what you do with the wild cultures vs civilisation as the story progresses. It's a tough and very interesting topic and it's super admirable that your tackling it among other things in your nuzlocke comic.
Hahaha, no, thank you for letting me durp dumb paragraphs onto your page!

That Breloom looks gorgeous, and the Growlithe are adorable. If I can just comment on the Pokemon drawn here I'd be happy XD I love seeing how you draw them all, even random background ones. Oh my gosh. Sad reality in the message here, and another commentary on the Pokemon rights in this world (domestic or not.) I also like how you're using the Whismur you caught as a plot device in the whole Rusturf Tunnel / Operation-Save-Peeko plot (I'm assuming, anyway.) I love your pages so much.

Nice page! This is getting all philosophic and I like it. I think that the Pokémon universe has some moral issues here and there that can be interesting to talk about.
I still don't understand how Whismur's eyes work though. >.<

Mewitti In reply to SuperCocca [2014-03-15 21:08:52 +0000 UTC]
Oh it certainly does!
In this comic, Whismur 'eyes' are just photosensitive pits that detect light and movement. They wouldn't be able to use eyes down in their pitch-black caves anyway so they sense the world around them in different ways.

Sammy has an interesting take on the 'march of progress'. There's some optimism to her take but it's still downright depressing: fall in line, behave, and do whatever the humans ask of you. You can't stop them.

He also mentioned that the strong (legendary) pokemon can. So maybe civilization can be thrown off course by a massive wild-card. Like... oh, I don't know... climate change? *Cough*Kyogre*cough*Groudon*

True enough, and seeing as this series features plenty of wild and 'domestic' pokemon dissatisfied with the status quo, I wonder if there are dissident humans who might also like to set back civilization as a means of evening out the playing field for their pocket monster friends. *Cough*Aqua*cough*Magma

Your nuzlocke, honestly, been a while since I commented last but I've been keeping up. Why is it so thought inspiring? You manage to take all the negative bits nobody would ever think about in a kids game/show and bring them to light. How the pokemon feel and the negative effects a world like this has on them. Its not all collecting gym badges and making puns, these are all lives and they have to deal with the ups and downs of society just like we do.
You even touched a bit on slavery there I think. Robin tried to use violence to resolve it and nothing came from it, but the second Mudkip tried to get it done by talking it out there was a nice little change.
PS. Does Robin realize that Talon just got kidnapped and he got robbed by tiny purple soundboxes... >__>
