i love how i completely disregard the category descriptions.used: pencil and photoshop for flat colors and (very) slight shading.
this is the first of my portraits of characters from my comic, nine lives . i chose to do booyaka first. she's kinda messy, and loves her room, so i decided to put her there. i was listening to sonic youth at the time, so that's why i put a sonic youth poster in the back... plus, booyaka's just a hip cat (see what i did there???), so it's only natural that she'd have a sonic youth poster. it's not based on an actual poster though. so don't try to find it!

this version is considerably larger. about double, maybe triple. i printed out the scanned sketch and traced it. this drawing takes up the entire 8.5"x11" sheet of paper that i used.
if you're wondering about the title, it comes from one of the earlier pages in the comic. when wolf finds out what her name is, he asks "what kinda name is booyaka?" and renard replies "it's a long story...". so yeah. it actually isn't her real name... but by now i've said a bit much. you'll just have to wait for the story to unfold to find out more...

the details in this are great! it's nice to see her surroundings and be able to get a good grasp of her as a character, both from the background and from her pose. her expression is great. :]

I really like her as a character. As with everyone she shares her world with, they are all VERY human. They have human weaknesses, desires, etc. I really forget that they are cartoon animals.

Another thing I've always wondered: How did you come up with the name Booyaka? It sounds like someone having a good time at a party.

haha, i don't know... i created her when i was 14-15, and i was a little immature back then... i think i just wanted her to be a really crazy kinda character, and so i gave her a weird name... and it stuck. n stuff!

I always love your use of colour, the way you use browns and unusual tones of blue. They give off such an air of reality.
I like her pose, she seems rather vunerable though, poor lass...
The bits of mess and the posters really add to the picture, makes the room come alive!
