First appearance: Super Mario Galaxy (2007)

King Kaliente from ”Super Mario Galaxy”. He is a huge octopus-like Octoomba that dwells inside a lava pool in Good Egg Galaxy, and mainly attacks by spitting fireballs and coconuts, and summoning smaller enemies called Lava Bubbles. The magmatic mollusc monarch later returns in Bowser Jr’s Lava Reactor, this time being able to shoot more projectiles and having a much more hazardous area

King Kaliente’s first boss battle is incredibly easy, yet very entertaining. The second battle is way more of a challenge, much thanks to the hazardous area. Design-wise, King Kaliente is one of my favourites from the Mario series. Just being a cephalopod is enough to making me adore him! Also, the animations and sound effects whenever you have a coconut tennis match with the king are perfectly executed and never gets old!

This one was somewhat tricky to do, due to a combination of strong shading and cartoony colours. I made the shadows so dark that many of King Kaliente's features vanished, so I've been lighting them up a bit. The colours also became too dull thanks to the heavy shading, so I've increased the saturation a lot too.
