Description So this was formerly my piece called "Doom Box" ,but that title was misleading, and in effect unfinished.
So now the cube is mounted as I think it ought to be,able to rotate. It is meant to be a talismanic device for navigation in out-of-the-body-experiences and/or three dimensional space...
Welded stainless steel-all recycled scrap.

This piece is available for purchase.
Please note me for pricing.

I keep yearning to create devices that not only are intriguing to look at (steampunk,Art Nouveau etc.)but also serve a practical function, combining Art and Science.
My term for these appliances would be "Metaphysical Devices".
There is precious little out there currently that fits this description, and so it is apparent to me there is a niche that needs to be filled...

Yes, I too like to create functional work. I have messes around with light and motors quite a bit and really enjoy the engineering challenge. Lately I've been thinking about incorporating a small tv/computer monitor into a piece. My plan is to sculpt a small kinetic piece and film it in motion, then have that film loop play on the screen of the larger sculpture.

Just need to find the time to build it...

Wow, wonderful stuff. I like all the pieces I've seen thus far - but this one takes the cake, even BEFORE reading the description which kicks it up a notch.

Well done!

Ah, thank you so much.
I just saw The Golden Compass and was very inspired by the Art Nouveau style of the sets and the compass itself. Very Jules Verne.
I'm playing around with more steam punk effects as well. We'll see what materializes...

Thank you John,
Stop by anytime.
It will serve to remind me to check on your work as well.
You have such a vast array of digital imagery, much of it seems very sculptural to me...

Thanks - I've enjoyed quite a bit of what you've posted. Some of it is just mind-boggling! *grin*

Sculptural? Interesting. Have a for-instance with that, perchance? Not arguing, just trying to add yet another perception of these pieces of photons I put together...

John,
I just looked at your images again and it does seem like an odd remark on my part...
I have NO IDEA what I meant now ...LOL
I get on DA late at night and just look at pictures for hours. Perhaps my image memory was scrambled that night.
It happens.

And yeah, late nite comments can get ... interesting sometimes.

Nice talkin' to you, either way!

ok, now if you had that outer rim 360 degrees, it could rotate in all directions nice setup, anyway.

and it's a nice idea... never needed mechanic help to navigate in my lucid dreams and oobes, though

Same with me,
but I'm taken lately with the idea of metaphysical devices ,and I'm just sort of exploring ...
It's fun.
At some point I might hit on a worthy blend of Art and Science.
