Description Otherwise, this one was a bit of a shaky creation. The doodle of it looked very nice, then the linework looked not good at all, then it looked nice again with color, and now after scanning and such it look a bit meh. Nothing special.
And the sky vanished again! It's hard to keep the pale sky and get rid of the wobbly-paper-shadows X(
Also, this is a large picture covering a A4. So now, after resizing it, some black lines got bloty. I've tried to fix some of this :/

I've sort of always seen articuno as a dove-like bird, so I took insperation from doves. The body posistion is very different thought, and I also messed up articunos head a bit =/
Then I also took isperation from a bird that I have no idea what it's called in english. It's an African bird, where the males mating feathercoat (they swift after thw mating season) are shiny black and the tail feathers extreamly long.
Edit; I think I've found the speices! They are called "Long-tailed Widowbird", Euplectes progne. I don't want to direct link to someonelses work and steal their bandwidth, so if you want to see this bird use any search engine and look up their latin name (amazingly, very little pictures seam to be around of this bird!).
Or I just got the wrong name

Unfortunate, my paper was too small, so this articuno got rather short ones <_<
Articunos tail-feathers are all swirly in the anime, but feathers are stiff in reality so I went for that.
Anyhow, I guess this could be a female or a male articuno during non-mating season.
Concidering the inviroment articuno lives in, I figure them to be predators, and the intence blue color itself could be camofluage and applied to both genders...

The feathers on its head make it look like a cockatoo. XD Seriously, though, this is really beautiful!

Articuno is probably the easiest bird to create realistically. It doesn't have any flames, or freaky spines or anything, it's just a bird. But you've made it more realistic. Nice goin'.

A dove like Articuno? Very interesting and new to me, most people choose falcons/eagles/quetzels, this is unique, I love it. Beautiful painting here, the rocks are brilliant. Fav from one of the biggest Articuno fans in the world

I love Articuno. ^_^ Also, I love this pose.

Something about the face looks a bit odd to me, but I suppose it's because I personally see Articuno a bit differently.

Nethertheless, I think you know how much I love your ideas at PokéMon. ^^

I looked it up, but that was not the bird sorry
But I went on and seached for some other birds too, and I found the bird I was thinking of! They turned out to be called "Long-tailed Widowbird"

Mega-Lupin In reply to PKMN-AJ [2006-09-30 19:46:26 +0000 UTC]

Funnily enough when I was searching for long tailed birds, I came across that one but it didn't seem like the one you'd draw inspiration from. Ironic huh.

was the bird by chance a variety of bird of paradise?

PKMN-AJ In reply to pigmonkeynsuzi [2006-09-30 19:10:40 +0000 UTC]

I was more thinking about Long-tailed Widowbird, but paradise birds also suit the concept
