Description I've finally settled into my new house enough to start doing some Serious Art again.  This poor dragon has been sitting on the project pile since 2012, but he is now complete.  I used a color scheme that is pretty unusual for me, as I ordinarily tend toward blues and greens.   This is just about as "opposite" as I can get!  It's fun to break out of the rut sometimes, though, isn't it?  I like  how these colors ended up working together.

Media extravaganza:

The inked dragon drawing was colored with Prismacolor Premier pencils and metallic gel pens.

The background includes scrapbook paper on a watercolored backing board.

The bits and bobs include fossilized coral (the four stones in the black circle), calcite and agate (the pale ovals at the top), and tiger's eye (the small golden squares at the bottom).  The rest is magic plastic of various colors and textures.

Original art:  sold.

See the Print Prices and Information  journal for print information.

WHAT Why have I not commented on this masterpiece!?
And my word it is a masterpiece. It's f***ing incredible. There's so much to look at. I love the stone - and other various material - accents. I love how the blue bits on the dragon just POP. I love this. It's so harmonious and wonderfully crafted - no little "bit" or "bob" looks out of place - which is to be expected, of course.
Fantastic work.

Thanks very much!  It's an unusual color scheme for me, as I generally like blues and greens the best.  It's fun to get out of that comfort zone every once in a while.

Thanks very much!

Yeah, sometimes it takes me several years to work my way back around to a project, but I think it's almost always worth the effort.

LOL - I have become less afraid of experimenting... and the experiments are more calculated risks than not.  Plans, coming together!

...I'm just sad that I don't have any actual Citrine that I could have put in here.  It's just a color reference point this time.

So the stones are glued to the page?
And is the Dragon cut-out or drawn?
Lovely effect!

rachaelm5 In reply to DAGAIZM [2017-08-04 01:40:25 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

Yes, the stones are all glued down.  I have to use tweezers to place them!

The dragon was colored on its own paper first, then cut out.  I attached it to the project with foam tape, so it hovers over the lower layers.

I spent $400 that I didn't have to purchase a Dan Neuberger photograph at his memorial show in June at Image City Photography Gallery. Absolutely one of a kind, now or never.

Exhibiting in the Neuberger GalleryI am honored to be exhibiting in the newly renamed Neuberger Gallery at Image City Photography Gallery in their current Dan Neuberger tribute show.
Dan was the master of the uncluttered photograph.
I learned a lot about photography from him. I miss his smile and wit.

Opening reception was last Friday. It is a beautiful show.
The featured image is now on my wall.

Man, I love his snout!  And the colors are great *sucker for warm colors*  Plus it really makes that blue pop.

Thanks very much!  (I rather like the whole head concept, and I'll probably use it again...   )

I was debating the addition of more blues, but in the end I thought the small, subtle bits worked much better.  It's so hard to *stop*, though.
