Description Yay!  All finished!

Here is the final, assembled image.  It is 20x30 inches, and let me tell you that scanning this beast was a monumental effort in patience.  Since the piece is so large, I had to scan the border and the middle-ground in eight different sections, then stitch them together in Photoshop.  I used piled books and a ruler to keep everything aligned during scanning (as my flatbed can only capture 8.5x11 inches at a time).  I then made further adjustments in Photoshop to even up the very slight misalignments that remained, and I balanced out the colors a bit.  The scanner tends to sense the most common color, then exaggerate it.

Deep Rising 11 is the latest entry in one of my oldest continuing drawing series.  I started Deep Rising back in college, in 1998.  It is by far the most ambitious.

Here's the final materials list:

Border decoration:  Prismacolor Premier pencils over a watercolor/salt wash.

Middle-ground:  Acrylic and salt base.  Acrylic rhinestones and acrylic "crinkle-foil" jewels (the long lozenge things).  Freshwater pearls, amethysts, blue-green-dyed serpentine, abalone shell.  Metal things.  Enamel dots.

Dragon:  Ink, watercolor wash, Prismacolor Premiers, and a tiny bit of gel pen detailing.

Progress views can be seen in the Deep Rising 11 folder .

Wow! It's really beautiful!   I love the coral-like design on the border part! And the parrotfish are really cute! I am still debating with myself on whether I'd be afraid if I met it underwater. On one hand it's big and has big teeth, on the other hand it's pretty  .

Thanks very much!

...LOL - I'm not sure I'd trust those teeth if those were the first things I saw.  I think I've drawn him in a hungry mood.
