I don't know much about Redwall but I'm familiar enough with it to know what this is an appreciate it.

I alwasy got the vibe that Cluny could be Matthias's long lost father and Matthias his illegitimate son, particularly in the animated series with how they have the same eyes, similar long and versatile tails, and identical leadership qualities. Adding to how in the animated series, they had met when Matthias was just a little one. Isn't also suiting if that is the case, that Cluny is beaten by his own son?

I hate to be the one to ask this, but isn't there an obvious difference in species? Classic idea though.

Fail-Seeker In reply to anaveragesizedgiant [2016-03-09 21:48:50 +0000 UTC]

Not too much of a difference, rats are just bigger in size and more muscled. It is like a wolf being able to mate with a Husky, don't you agree?

ThalassoAtrox In reply to Fail-Seeker [2018-01-05 03:56:14 +0000 UTC]

No, wolf and domestic dogs are merely different subspecies of the same species, rats and mice( there are inumerous species of rat of mice) are distant cousins. Assuming Matthias and Cluny are a house mouse and a black rat respectively, their species would be about as closely related as a human and a gibbon.

Maybe, but that doesn't quite solve the rat/mouse thing.

Fail-Seeker In reply to anaveragesizedgiant [2016-03-11 01:13:27 +0000 UTC]

Both Matthias and Cluny are both great leaders, skilled swordsmen, have longer tails then others, have the same eyes, both are haunted by visions of Martin and his history, and both have the same tempers. Do you see what I am getting at?

anaveragesizedgiant In reply to Fail-Seeker [2016-03-11 02:37:48 +0000 UTC]

Ya, I totally get that, I was just thinking about size strength and color.

Fail-Seeker In reply to anaveragesizedgiant [2016-03-11 02:40:57 +0000 UTC]

You have heard that the gender of the parents can dtermine which genes are stronger in a particular part of their composition. I heard it is often the mother who determines the species, so it is Matthias's mother's colors and species which are the most dominant in his appearance while his eyes and longer-than-usual tail for a mouse are from his father. Make sense?

Then what did he use to fight Matthias? (It's been a while since I've read the book itself)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lazerbem In reply to Speciesunkn0wn [2016-01-15 00:21:09 +0000 UTC]

Well, he threw a chair, used Killconey as a meat shield, threw a torch at Matthias, and finally used an iron fence spike in the battle. He also used his tail a couple of times to trip up Matthias, but his tail blade is cut off before he can pick up the iron spike.
