Description Today I finally finished the renovation of my workshop! :joy:
This piece was just a lil work to check the new dust abduction system that I installed, so it's not supposed to be something special. It is a Scandinavian Shepherd Knife forged from a piece of cheap steel (German R37 I guess). It's hardened and tempered twice but I doubt it really makes a difference with this sort of steel . Knifes like this are still very popular, because they don't need any handle or sheath (you can just hang it on your belt).

It is still in progress, but I'll update the pic as soon as it's done. Feel free to comment and visit my gallery for my other stuff!

looks very useful and well made
do you sell your creations or just make them for your enjoyment?

thank you for the kind words
I only make them for my own enjoyment (and I honestly doubt that anybody would pay for this )

Your plans are on german, arenΒ΄t they?
Dann kannst de die ja auch einfach so ganz streßlos für Leute wie mich hochladen, oder?

oh, I know tools like that, recently i came back from baltic culture festival and all blacksmithers there had one like this one. Only I suggest to you improve on the handle, you can make it not so simple, with ornaments or smth...

I'm just too impatient for such highly detailed pieces!

Weeellll I think you're right!
But basically it's the blade that sucks more that the handle! On that pic it's not yet sharpened (not even fully grinded)! Ohh well it's hard to imagine how much effort it takes to get some metal work REALLY good!

congrats on finishing your shop. I hope it turned out well. how big is it and what do you have in it? Right now I work out of my sisters driveway or whoever will let me set up in their drive way. how long have you been renovating your shop.

needless info can sometimes turn out to be quite interesting and informative. Trust me it isn't wasted.

Thank you first of all!
My workshop is located in the old truck garage next to my house (lucky me )
I was using a homebuilt field forge, before I decided to install another workshop especially for forging and sheet metal fabrication (my woodworking shop is just not suited for that kind of work). I spoke to the official in charge for such things and started to build the forge (which took by far less effort than it took me to tidy up that damn garage!!!). I finished some pieces in there, but than I had to face several severe problems with some parts of the old interior (no details here), and so I had to start the renovation.

I still have the original plans I used for building the forge. If you have any interest, I could just mail or post 'em.
