Welcome back to "The Greatest Titles of Our Time". Today we have yet another brilliant title for a painting that represents an ice type Pokemon swimming in the Arctic Sea, under the glaciers. The title of this picture, Glacier, gives a very deep meaning to it...Yadda yadda yadda. Yeah.
This picture is for 's Draw Me a Pokemon -event, this time Lapras was called out. I've never drawn Lapras before, I think, so I thought this would be a good opportunity. I decided to use only two colours, Cobalt blue and ochre yellow...or something like that, I'm not sure about the names. I think it turned out nice but I just hate it how my scanner ate a great deal of the hilights and the lightest colours. Damn you!

I think this is twice in a row you've called rookie status on something I've found really well done. Either you've got great beginner's luck or (more likely) you're master new things brilliantly quickly.
This is a fantastic fish's-eye view of lapras in its Arctic home. I love how particularly rugged you've made its shell, almost like a big, rigid glacier itself. This lapras altogether looks a bit more "rough" than they're often portrayed, kind of more like a real big reptile. I kind of like it when artists draw less glamorised versions of pokΓ©mon like this one.
Great unusual perspective, and I think the bichromatic (or technically trichromatic if you count the outlines) scheme really works to give the sense of the endless sea and ice of lapras's natural environment, putting in the yellow sky that hints at the rare glint of sun that sometimes graces itself to the frigid waters below. You've really got the feel down well with this piece, it really is lovely.

This piece is very old (and so is your comment, thanks to my lateness) and I think back then I wasn't nearly as confident with my art as I am now. But even back then I really liked to experiment on different techniques etc. I guess I could call myself a quick learner but I don't know. Sometimes could be just beginner's luck, too.
As for Lapras, it's usually drawn as a very smooth and soft looking Pokemon but personally I like to give more edge to its otherwise very gentle and soft presence. I like to think that Lapras is based on some kind of plesiosauria. I've seen quite a lot of rather monstrous portrayals of Lapras which is pretty neat. It's a cool pokemon overall, maybe a bit under-appreciated.

You covered such a wide range of values with just those two colors -which is the awesome thing about watercolor. I admire your talent in all your incredible pokΓ©mon pictures and if I had the patience, I would go on praising each and every picture of yours, but of course I don't

I'm also very glad to hear I inspire you. :> I guess there's nothing wrong with cheaper watercolours, they're actually just fine for beginners. Personally I could never use anything but my St. Petersburg watercolours because I've got used to high quality colours with a lot of intensity. They're not actually too expensive either. The watercolour set I have cost about 40β¬ and it had 24 colours I think. The quality is better than in any watercolours I've used before so the price isn't actually too bad.

I never could do watercolors or ink. My drawings I tend to end up erasing and going over with something else and whatnot. You, however, make it brilliant!

I've tried it several times though, and though my teachers say that my ink drawings are good, my watercolor ones come out as a nightmare xP

Yeah, I try to keep to my oil paintings, pencil drawings, and such because of it
Yeah, s'pose so, despite the fact that I've had to do a watercolor painting in literally every art class I've taken (except computer graphics this year, but, yeah, that's only for computer art 8'D )

Ah I understand about the scanners... They love to give us darker than we wanted and leave out our nice light colors.

Cobalt's a nice shade, one of my favorites. If the comment's true, the scanner did this pic no justice. What's important is that I like this picture, and that you did a great job.
