50th comic! Whoo! I can't believe I've actually managed to make it to such a high count. And it's only been a few years!
... 6 years. Huh. Can't really say that that's fast or anything. Or that I've improved a lot in this time. I mean, sure, I HAVE improved a lot over the past 6 years that I've been doing these comics, but the amount of improvement is fairly little for this time span. Or at least I think so.
Then again, I can't look at my old artwork without cringing, sooo...

Anyway, for the 50th comic, I wanted to do something a little bit special, being a non-4-Koma format. Just to try things out and have some fun, really.
And I think it worked out. Sort of. Getting the panels to look proper and have the right spacing etc. was a bit troublesome. Which is why I prefer to use my presets that I've made.

Originally, this comic was also supposed to lead in the starting
point of a new arc, buuut then I played Hidden Star in Four Seasons and
got an idea for it. So the story arc is going to be delayed by a comic.
Oh well.

So yeah, comic about the characters with fan given names.
Since the mid bosses in EoSD didn't have any names displayed, Japanese fans just gave those names in accordance to what the characters are.
Daiyousei translating into Big Fairy, and Koakuma translating into Little Devil.
As for Meiling, since initially, people didn't know whether to pronounce her name with the Japanese reading (Kurenai Misuzu) or the Chinese reading (Honh Meiling), people initially decided on to call her by what was the most defining aspect of her character design: the fact that she's Chinese. The nickname "China" kind of stuck after her name being confirmed to be Hong Meiling.

Now, considering that Daiyousei and Koakuma are similarly fan given names, albeit semi-confirmed by ZUN, what if they were just used like "China"?
Those two would probably be just as annoyed as Meiling is by her unfortunate nickname.
And that's basically the idea behind this comic.

As for the other characters that are depicted here:
I just wanted to have some other doujin circles around, and thus I wanted to use the opportunity to draw characters I'd probably never get the chance to draw otherwise. Those being PC98 characters, since I generally don't have any ideas for them.
... except then I wanted to draw Tokiko (from CoLA), since she has an affinity to books. And then I remembered that "Tokiko" is a fan given name as well.
While it kind of messes with the joke of "you (and your names) will forever remain unknown", since people are buying the books from Tokiko, it fits the entire theme of having lots of characters with fan given names.
Which led to the last character here, who has been named "Ayana" by the Japanese community. She's the unnamed mid-boss from Mystic Square, so she doesn't have a portrait. And being from PC98, she doesn't really get much attention, and due to not having an official portrait in combination with that, she doesn't really have a properly defined appearance (outside what you see of her in her sprite).

Onward to another six years of comics!
... or another 50 of them. I'd be happy if it didn't take as long the next time. xD;

Don't feel bad girls. I know your real names.

Besides I would be curious of their collaberation in one work. Might be a mixed bag here.

The story was written by Meiling alone (although the others may have influenced her a bit here and there), with the others taking on other fields in making that comic. So who knows, maybe it's more straight forward than one might think. And even though it's their first work, maybe it's not even half bad. It probably sucks, thought. xD;
(Personally, I imagined their comic to be a shounen (possibly martial arts) comic, but maybe Meiling thought up something more unexpected.)

I didn't know you've been doing these comics for six years!

Also, I love how the events leading up to the end of the comic is so anticlimactic.
