Description What is this, then? Could it be a poster for a production of Les Mis that closed eight months ago or so?
...Yeah. How sad even is that.

Based on this poster , I continue my adventures in the world of drawing from reference but in my own style.

Stuff I changed:
First and foremost, Enjolras. Look at him in the original poster – eep. The photo with only him is even better: see that knife? Your blood will water the meadows of France. Sure, it refers to the blood oath they swore in the show – but taken out of context... The part where they seem to have added several years to his age aside, the Enjolras in the photos is not the one I remember seeing onstage. The first word I'd describe Rune's Enjolras with is friendly. So, I tried to reflect that in the drawing.
Overall, I tweaked the expressions and toned down the dramatic shading of the original. I think the dark shadows turn everyone a notch creepier than they really are.
Also, I turned them all into cartoon-y bobbleheads.

Stuff I failed:
Valjean. Hard as I tried, I couldn't make him look anything close to Alex, or even Valjean-ish on his own. The rest of my failures I leave for you to judge...

Wheeeee it's your cast! I mean, not that you *own* them, but... yeah, they're your cast. :-D Adorable Cosette in particular, intense Enjolras, and creepy NASTY Thenardier!!!

Eeeee, yay, you're back! I've missed you!

My cast indeed – I admit I sometimes catch myself saying so, too, even though it might be a bit silly... I just love them so! (Insert intense sobbing here.)

I love how Thénardier seems to have managed to nab Enjolras' jacket in this production!

Oh, I love this. Valjean does look Valjeanish to me - maybe not the whitened-hair version, but he's got something noble about him, and I like that he's got his hand on Cosette's shoulder - looks like he's both trying to reassure her and to keep her from wandering off The Thénardiers, Cosette and Javert are perfect, but I really really love your Fantine and your Eponine and Marius. Their expressions are heart-wrenching. (Also, the colours - wow!!)

Awesome poster

I was so happy when I noticed JVJ's hand on Cosette's shoulder in the original poster - you're right, it's a lovely detail. I had great source material to work with.

Aw, kiitoksia! Värittämiselle tietyt brushit tekee ihmeitä, toi Sketch Arsenal nyt viimeisenä... Olen koukussa!

Kaikenlaista.

Google maps: It's there somewhere.

Sorry, I just had to put that since most of them are looking in a different direction. Awesome drawing by the way, quite close to the original. Also by the way, did you hear that the new Enjolras, Jason Forbach, in the 25th USA tour now has a small white stripe added to his hair, forced to do by some important guy. The man has brown hair so...he looks kinda like Sweeney Todd from the Depp movie.

Markfangirl In reply to Starlene [2012-10-12 05:11:20 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I should ask the actor if he knows since I'm seeing it in November. Yay! I've seen a high school production but there was a character missing, Grantaire. Weird. Stupid school production.

Starlene In reply to Markfangirl [2012-10-12 11:21:45 +0000 UTC]

If you'll ever find out, let us know!
Also, Les Mis without Grantaire? Wow, that's odd. Who sung his lines?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Markfangirl In reply to Starlene [2012-10-15 01:59:02 +0000 UTC]

Enjolras was the one to be, "Marius in love? OMG that's so funny. PS I hate opera." And they just recasted or deleted any other small lines he had example, "Lets give them a screwing they'll never forget" in 'building the barricade'. But I believe Enjolras was the one to sing his part in 'Drink with me'. So, Enjolras was more Enjolaire. Sad thing is that that was the first time I saw Les Mis so it took me a while to understand who Grantaire is.

But the really odd thing is that in other school productions normaly you would have Grantaire. But at my high school they delected him. Even though they keep the prositute song [I know you have to have it but still they could have toned it down], Madame Thenardier's 'bastard' and 'arse', and other small things.

Funny thing, there was an over lap in casting. The guy who played Enjolras was also the guy to be slapped by Fantine. And I figured that out without looking at the cast list.

Starlene In reply to Markfangirl [2012-10-15 16:08:34 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that's so confusing... Enjolaire... I bet Enjy wouldn't approve!
Yeah, it's a really weird cut. Grantaire doesn't do anything that offensive that he should be removed... Also, overlaps like that are the best.

Markfangirl In reply to Starlene [2012-10-17 06:26:39 +0000 UTC]

I wonder what Grantaire would say if he knew about Enjolaire...

Grantaire's a drunk, I guess that's not "school-appropriate". Yet, there are prostutites. Oh, people.

Wait, Enjolras slapped Fantaine in 1822ish and then in 1832 he looks no older than in 1822ish. Hmmm, he's a vampire. Yep, vampire.

Starlene In reply to Markfangirl [2012-10-17 18:07:13 +0000 UTC]

Grantaire would be too confused to say anything.
Hmm, that's so weird - you could direct the show in a way that Grantaire's not a drunk, just obnoxious. But oh well, can't always understand decisions like this!

...you might be on to something there.

I saw Les Mis, they took away the sweeney hair.

The production was awesome! I meet some fangirls who liked my vest. I was wearing the red and gold striped Enjolras vest with 112 buttons I made. I also showed them my 9 Mis inspired dolls I would give to the cast later. I also meet Forbach when he was still in costume as Enjolras in the lobby. He was collecting for Broadway Cares. It was awesome, purely awesome.

Haha, I think I would've told you I like your vest, too, if I had been there – all those buttons, that sounds like lots and lots of work! And very awesome you got to meet him! Did you take a picture with the both of you in the vests? The dolls are so cute, just checked out your gallery...

Markfangirl In reply to Starlene [2012-12-01 20:07:32 +0000 UTC]

The two girls were wearing vest they sewed to look like revolutionaries. I went up to them during intermition and complimented them, so they didn't see the crazy fangirl in the Enjolras vest till I went up to them. Also, picture of me and Forbach are now uploaded.

Side note: I found Tanz der Vampire drawings by you and checked out the cd and summery on Wikipedia. I quite like the cd even though I do not understand German and the main reason I bought it was because Steve Barton was on it, but anyway....

Wow, glad if my art had any effect in you checking out Tanz der Vampire! I don't understand German either, but still enjoy the songs... Here's to hoping there'll be a faithful-to-the-original English version one day!

Markfangirl In reply to Starlene [2012-12-02 01:29:17 +0000 UTC]

Although in the original recording in the ending song there was a few lines in english, it suprised me the first time I listened to it. "We drink your blood and then we eat your soul. Nothings gonna stop us; let the bad times roll." Weird how they have that....

Starlene In reply to Markfangirl [2012-12-02 20:13:08 +0000 UTC]

Haha, true – it's the same everywhere, I guess, they even did it in the Finnish show! No idea why they do that, though...
