It is a creature living in a volcano’s funnel. Kappas of the kind must keep their emotions in check or they become dangerous for themselves. On the one hand, they can literally burst out of boiling anger or keen excitement, which together with the creature’s death provokes the effusion of lava. That is why kappas of the kind avoid of knowing news or discussing with others their likes or dislikes. On the other hand, they should not stay calm and still for long: if their inner fire fades away they become sleepy and if the lava in their headbowls turns to a piece of obsidian, they sink into a deep sleep forever looking just like stone statues. It is almost impossible to meet a human in such a place as a volcano funnel, so kappas of the kind don’t take humans for enemies. However if a kappa is young, it feels so surprised that it usually finishes terribly for both the kappa and the human traveller, that is why you’d better not attract its attention if your way led you yet to a funnel settled by kappas.
