Description

PreviousParasite

Next: Aggregate

CIRCUMSTANCES:
See Investigator Report Form #8

EXTERNAL EXAMINATION:
The body is identified by wholly novel characteristics, and is that of an unembalmed, unknown, parasitic organism. The body weighs 30 pounds, measures 15 inches, and is covered in a chitinous layer of compound insectoid integument with crimson colors (see attached photo). The body shows a large umbillical cord connected to the deceased host's stomach, duodenum and ileum; the body itself was formerly situated in the location of the host's liver. Eight legs in total are reported, though two are more paddle-like in form and presumably function. No attached sex organs or ventilatory systems were present on the external exam.

The head is long and thin. Three pairs of small to large protrusions extend from the back of the head, reinforced with both chitin, keratin and an unidentified substance, as with the rest of the exoskeleton. Two large eyes are present, though upon further inspection they appear to be compound in nature. A small, apparently bioluminescent horn tops its head, perhaps used to escape the host once growth is complete. Additionally the head bears an elongated rostrum with bioluminescent purple flesh; this is explained by the blood present in its system, which contains hemerythrin. The inside of the mouth consists of various pseudoteeth and papillae.

An intestinal passage leading up from its umbilicum connects to the host's intestines via a system of vinelike roots. The position of the parasite inhibits extraction without further preparation; the total assimilation of the liver means that an immediate transplant must be planned in advance. Considering the early stage of development, it is possible that other organs may later be assimilated into its biomass. The beginnings of this are already present; branching structures in the umbilicum pierce the blood vessels and lead to an emphysematous structure in the lungs, containing spores; further spores are constantly being pumped into the abdominal cavity.

FURTHER COMMENTS:
In light of the parasite's morphological attributes and method of infection, it is recommended to destroy the body at the first given opportunity; proceeding otherwise will endanger all participants involved.
