Description This is a character from the series I'm reading right now, The Wayfarer Redemption. Her name is Faraday and she's one of my favourite characters. And I'm going to explain why (you can skip this if you want):

I've always hated those female characters who always play the role of the poor, pathetic yet tragically beautiful, damsel in distress. The ones that the knight in shining armor always works his ass off to save even though she has zero personality and no strength of will to even lift a finger to save her own ass when she's in mortal peril. An example of this (might get flamed for this but w/e) is Bella from the Twilight series. She's completely useless. All she does is whine and complain and get herself into danger so Edward has to go and save her. Another example: Christine Daae from PoTo. Same goes for her. God I just hate those people who regard themselves as victims of fate and do absolutely nothing to help themselves instead of whining and complaining.

Consequently, I have always loved those female characters who are the total opposite to the kind I explained above. Faraday is a good example. She was betrayed by the man she loved, and yet she still sacrificed herself for him. She knowingly went to her death so that he and his wife could live happily. Now, reborn, she still has the courage and strength of will to help his children with their quests. She accepts that he will never love her and she moved on. I mean, does that not speak volumes about her character? It's soooo much better than sitting around feeling sorry for yourself.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. I really love this picture and I wanted to express a bit about how I feel about it.

Pencil :: 5-6 hrs? :: no references

((fun fact: if this were in colour, her cloak would be red. ))

wouldn't blue be a better colour? like the colour of the gown from when she is tree friend

Hmm sure. Since the picture is in fact black and white, the imagined colour is totally up to you. I personally had her red robe in mind when I drew it, but that's just me.

I so totally agree with about major female characters that play damsels in distress that are so vapid and soppy they make me cringe and shudder to be a woman myself. As yourself Faraday is also my favorite when I read this series by Sarah Douglass.

Great job on the drawing, just how I imagine her to be as well.

I love the axis trilogy, and i totally agree with your rant. I was kinda sad though because apart from faraday and belial, axis and jack were the best. It sucked that they both betrayed her. Anyway love the pic, especialy the wind and the doe behind faraday.

Anyway I really like this pic, it's really good!

I'm so happy to find more Faraday fanart!!! AND a fellow Wayfarer Redemption lover!

Axis= Complete Douchebag. So much he doesn't even deserve to be main character.
Faraday= Totally loved her. All time fave. Especially in Sinner. She started completely kicking ass then.

If you're a fan of Sara Douglass, and of the Wayfarer Redemption, then you should try reading The Troy Game Series! The plot is almost as delectable as Wayfarer's, with characters a bit more intricate. haha.

Anyway,
I am completely loving this picture. You've captured the very essence of the character, and the shadows/fog...thing surrounding her are wonderful. I'm especially loving the folds of her cloak, and the deer behind her. The deer is epic. And her expression.

Very nice job!

Thanks so much.

I know, Faraday just kicks ass. I hated Axis for betraying her, but it was impossible to hate Azhure, she was too genial. I loved that Axis took a backseat in the second trilogy though. It was appropriate after his douchbaggery in the first half of the series.

Ok, I'll keep that series in mind, I don't think I've seen it before, but it sounds interesting.

Thanks man!

Oh my gosh!! The Troy Game was amazing!!!!! And again, the main characters were complete Douchebags. I mean, Bruno/William/Charles (or Henry? can't remember)/Jack?!?!?!! Complete dickhead.

And same goes for Axis. I can't believe how much he hated Drago and just never accepted him. And poor Zenith!!

I love Faraday too, she's amazing. And lovely. And this picture captures her perfectly.

Excellent job.

I always prefered Azhure over Faraday though, she got a bit too annoying in Pilgrim, she went from awesome and having power in Sinner to whiny and useless.

Azhure on the other hand feared losing Axis to Faraday and actually fought in battle and kicked more ass then Faraday did.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VibblesAgain In reply to TheDarkmage [2009-03-28 18:30:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, she was a bit whiny after Sinner. And Azhure is a also a decent character, but I think I personally have more affection for the underdog. Especially because Axis was being such an asshole.

And thanks

TheDarkmage In reply to VibblesAgain [2009-03-28 22:03:21 +0000 UTC]

He did screw up pretty badly with Faraday, though he did regret it and apologized, Faraday just continued to try and make his life hell just as revenge.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VibblesAgain In reply to TheDarkmage [2009-03-30 19:39:10 +0000 UTC]

His life didn't actually suffer much though. I mean he got to be a god. And it was his son I think who actually had to deal with Rivkah's son. (forget his name, it starts with Z tho) And even then, he was still a complete asshole to Drago. Sorry, I just don't feel sorry for Axis at all.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDarkmage In reply to VibblesAgain [2009-03-30 20:13:57 +0000 UTC]

Caelum had to deal with Zared yes, and Drago did try and get Caelum killed, I think I'd be angry at my son if he did that, and if I had a son.

At least he felt like shit for being so terrible to Faraday.

I can't deny Axis fucked up badly though, no one can.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VibblesAgain In reply to TheDarkmage [2009-03-31 19:45:10 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but Drago didn't remember that at all. He had the potential to grow up to be a completely different person and instead his parents were openly cruel to him.

At this point I have forgotten what we're arguing about. So... let's agree to disagree?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheDarkmage In reply to VibblesAgain [2009-03-31 21:32:32 +0000 UTC]

I can agree to disagree.

And I do agree that his parents and his brother and sister screwed up big time.

SternchenNoa [2009-03-04 21:54:45 +0000 UTC]

I loved both of them in the first triology, Faraday and Azhure...But I always felt sad about Farady :/ For example when she's planting the wood (sorry I don't know the english names of many things, because I read the books in german) and having Isfrael...And then she's always visiting him...knowing that she might never see him again :/ So sad...I thought it was peacefull when she met with Isfrael as a deer(?)
In the Wayfarer Redemtion...I was so glad when she returned back to normal in "Sinner"(?)...And I like her relationship with Drago...I can understand that she don't want to get hurt again by that -damn Sunsoar-...
Well I exspecially love the chapter when she's going to 'Island of Mist and Memory' (?) to see whats up with Zenit...And then she's so magical...I love it :3
Faraday really is a great character
And your picture is soooo beautyfull...And so calm...I love it :3

VibblesAgain In reply to SternchenNoa [2009-03-09 22:00:26 +0000 UTC]

mmmhhmmm the part where she met isfrael as a deer made me cry. I am not ashamed to admit it. That was a deeply emotional scene.
One thing I loved about it was how the author made Azhure and Faraday equal protaginists in the first trilogy. So it was impossible to hate Azhure for stealing Axis. You know what I mean?
The happy ending to the second trilogy was perfect. I cried. Lol thank you man

Sweet! It's Faraday! She's one of my favourite characters too. ^_^ I'm so glad that she got her happy ending too, I was mad at Axis for lying to her like that. And I agree with you, she is incredibly strong and complex, which is why I love her too.

As for the drawing, I think it's really awesome. The detail in this is really nicely done. I like the doe in the background, and the clothes she's wearing
