Used my own hands as reference. Flower was made-up.

I LOVE pictures that have portions of it in black and white and then BAM! colour. This is amazing, you take speed paint to a whole new level. My version of speedpaint is.. well... it's not pretty like this

Well I'm surely off , but here's my analysis for the fun of it
Yet, the fact that the position of the hands display a less passionate gesture as support or submission is more apparent. Another factor is the presence of earth, where no one actually gives to a bf/gf/wife/etc. soil along the flowers. This would therefor go along the lines of "Support", where as the general idea of "Life" is supported.
Well, I could go on, but I think I'm already way too off the track
Although I looove your art Vibbles, I'll have to point towards the thumbs which really seem odd and misplaced in my opinion. Seems like you have a harder time with human anatomy

I like your analysis and I think it's really well thought out. You have some good points.
Now here's mine: The flower is shaped like a heart, which is obviously a symbol of love, so it's like they're offering up their love, or opening up...
Also I think an actual living plant with soil would be a better present than say, a cut rose, because the rose would wilt while the plant would grow and live on. Kind of like how they say true love never dies. Personally, I would be thrilled if someone gave me a potted petunia, but that's just me.
And on the other hand, it's just a symbol of young affection, because you know how little kids will pick dandelions and weeds and things and give them to people as a present. It's cute and rather touching.

On my part, my gift to my lover would be a flower similar to an orchid where it needs to be nurtured many years (2 minimum for an orchid if I recall) before it flowers, expressing profound caring, constant attention and sprouts of passion.
