Description South Africa has a wealth of plant species, but only a few indigenous palms. These, Hyphaene petersiana, are among those most frequently seen, occurring in the Kruger National Park and the far north of the country, usually in river valleys but not on the riverbanks themselves. Palm swifts use them for nesting, glueing feathers AND eggs to the undersides of the lower, hanging leaves. They can grow to 18m/60' in height. Coloured pencil.
