Description This is just my reaction to all of the "phan-girls" out there who are adamant that Christine should have stayed with Erik. Erik is a tragic poor lost soul, who lashes out at the world who feared and outcast him. He really is sad, but it doesn't change the fact that he is still a murderer and is phsycotic. That's really not something you want to spend the rest of your life with! There is that argument that had Christine returned his love, he would have changed. Perhaps but the man he is at the end of the musical isn't healthy.

It would be like plucking a flower, you might try to nurture it, but from the moment you break the stem...it's dying. Could you do that to someone you loved?

You are absolutely 100% right--but if I were Christine...3 hours with Erik is worth a lifetime of Raoul--I know that I know that I couldn't help myself... I am madly in love with Erik (Gerik). However, for my daughter--I would want her to end up with a Raoul... I would want her safe and taken care of. Unfortunately, I am a woman of extreme passion for a guy like 'The Phantom'

hehehe I know exactly what you mean...but for Christine I think she made the right decision. love can be irrational and blind...but i think sometimes it has to be realistic.

I agree with you here....plus he had less hypnotic bewitching qualities in the movie/musical (minus Michael Crawford...love him), and if any other girl were in Christine's position she'd be pretty gosh darned traumatized at the end of everything. I'm an E/C shipper until the end of the world, but there are so many things about it that would have never worked out. Onto the art. Grrrreat! I think their expressions illustrate the dilemma perfectly. It's been a fav of mine for a long time.

Fair arguement and wonderful piece.

I personally, think that Chirstine ultimately realized how much she truly loved him.
In the book, it was a different story. Films/Stage, however, that's what I think. I always thought Erik's reaction was rash. If he'd looked at her face when she took off his mask on stage, he would've seen adoration mixed with uncertaincy.
She wasn't looking to embarrass him, merely show him that she didn't care what was under the mask and she didn't care who knew it. I honestly think she would have shared a happy life with him in the end. Maybe even a family.
He just took it all as a sign that she was revealing to all of Paris what he looked like as a form of hurting him more than needed. Hence the harsh reaction and the destruction of the chandelier and opera house.

I think you have a very valid point there that han't been properly explored. If you want to explore the ideas behind why she took his mask off, it makes plenty of sense. You're the only one to have persuaded me away from my point of view slightly. Nice one ^_~

Merci. Merci beacoup!
That's the only reason I like the pairing.
There's always the Meg/Erik and I'm not a big fan of that really... I don't know why, it just doesn't intrest me.

There are some wellwritten fanfictions (if you like them) at [link] by an author named PhantomMiddleEarthLover
She's one of my favourite authors on there so far. Great sense of humor. I DEFINATELY recommend the Phantom De-Tour.
Hillarious. Very hip and modern Christine...

fair enough...but Erik in the book sleeps in a coffin...he's unhinged. Yes we could sit all day debating what makes him that way and whose fault it is....but Erik is still capable and willing to murder whichever version you choose to sympathise with. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Phantom fan, I love the book and the movie and that stageshow (been to see it in London with John Owen Jones as the man himself)

He's not a healthy human being - yes he needs help, but at the same time, would you sacrifice yourself to a life of insanity and darkness to be with someone you just felt sorry for?

Would I still stay with Erik? Movie Erik: No. Book Erik: Yes.

Reasons: No to movie Erik because he killed just out of hate. Look at Joe B. He got mad because of the managers casting Carlotta, so he kills a stage hand. Not a very good reason.
Yes to Book Erik because he killed out of self defense... if you don't count the time he spent in Persia, entertaining the khanum.... Then again, the khanum was an evil bitch.

Gorgeous.... absolutely gorgeous. And I love your description and the reasoning behind you creating this piece. I don't think I could have argued that point any better. But it's what fangirls do.

I can't get over your style. It's a perfect mix of realism and.... for lack of a better word, comic. There is life in their faces. It's so animated. I just love this.

so true
I've found myself thinking about all this lots of times and my only conclussion is the same you've found:
he can be hot, a great singer, an incredible genious, but his mind is not healthy at all.
I wouldn't like to find him in a dark alley, overcoat after Christine's leaving, for I am sure that if he wasn't completely insane before the "incident", he would be now

... Bless you.

That's why he let her go. He loved her too much to keep her with him, to deprive her of sanity and sunlight for all her life. Raoul is a good honest man who loves her, and could protect her, and give her a normal life. Even if Erik loved her more, he knew this...

Also a lovely piece. The thick twisted outlines contrast the humanity in his eyes in a very lovely way. Usually I dislike Gerry Phantoms, but you aren't using him as an "OMG HOTT!11" image here, here he's simply shown as Erik. And Christine looks so simply pained here, the contrast to his face is just so touching.

Thank you so much for your comment. I think you're absolutely correct! I do however think that Gerry is a hottie, and he was good as the Phantom and he embodied a "different" interpretation. He certainly communicated the pain and heartache and need to be loved. I however felt that if I drew that Phantom as he was/written I would alienate my viewers and my point would be completely lost. but thanks for noticing my work. God bless

Gerry wasn't bad- hell, it was his preformance I saw first, and I was utterly captivated. But after I heard Michael sing there was no turning back. The thing that annoys me with him is that a number of people just focus on the "OMGHOTT"-ness of his preformance and they loose track of Erik in it. I don't mind him being pretty, as long as that isn't the main reason someone's interested in him. (not saying that's you, just my thoughts in general)

Thanks yeah it's a Phantom of the Opera picture, and I just wanted to give a bit of creative realism
