Description While this by no means covers everything about painting realistic hands, I hope it provides a good jumping off point and contains some helpful info. Tell me about typos, whatever, and let me know what you think!

Thanks,
- Del

(this is more painting than drawing, and not traditionally based either, but seems to deal more with anatomy than technique, so that's why it's in this particular category. Let's see if it gets moved )

I has small hands - but nature compensated me with extreme sensitivity.

Really cool tutorial!
Just about the size: I'm female and my hand just reaches from chin to ~ 1 cm above my brows and I know girls with similar sized and even smaller sized ones. So I think the size depends on genes.

ceruleanvii In reply to HylianDragonCatty [2009-12-04 22:22:15 +0000 UTC]

mine, female, fall right about halfway between brow and hairline. I agree there will be variation in size - it's those child sized hands on adult bodies that ruin it for me!

HylianDragonCatty In reply to ceruleanvii [2009-12-05 20:55:15 +0000 UTC]

I agree to you in that point

(BTW my experence is the oposite: I know too much people who draw GIANT hands, larger than the head.)
thanks for the reply

Oh I always loved to draw hands back when I decided anime lineart was enough for me. Now I hate them cause they're so hard to paint in/color!

So thanks a lot for this! It really helps.

this is a good one. I learned how to draw hands with books by Burne Hogarth, and observing my own mose pickers. I often shoot my hands with my crappy laptop camera as refs when there is a difficult pose too.

Instant +fav!

Great tutorial, I love doing hands! As you said they can say more than words in an image, my problem is not so much with the shape but with color, for some reason they dont look realistic enough, but I'm trying to work on that hehe

I think I'll practice my skills a bit, your tutorial gives me an idea where I might be failing.

Thanks for doing it
