History:
While Red October is a relatively new team in the Profreshional Splatoon League, just entering its fifth decade in the league, its history is arguably nearly as long and storied as those of the league’s flagship powers. The founding members of Red October, led by the legendary Orlando Augustín, once played in the Octoleet Splatoon League, most of them forming the nucleus of its perennially favorite team, which was so dominant that no other Octarian team could match its level.
However, despite enjoying whatever luxuries and prestige the Octarians could bestow them, the players were bored of the lack of challenging opponents and frustrated with the lack of freedoms under the regime of DJ Octavio, especially for those less fortunate than themselves. After playing a friendly Turf War series against an all-star team from the Profreshional Splatoon League as a gesture of goodwill and being impressed at the high level of play from their Inkling opponents, Augustín and his teammates began to seriously consider defecting to Inkopolis.
After many months of painstakingly careful planning, Augustín, his teammates, several players from other teams, defecting naval officer Viktor Splatimov and his crew, and all of their families boarded a ship in the dead of the night bound to Inkopolis, where they were arrested and detained by the Inkling Coast Guard. After explaining their situation, they were granted asylum and settled in the Inkopolis neighborhood of Blighton Beach. Within a year, Augustín, his teammates, and their former rival players established Red October with the help (and naming suggestion) from Splatimov.
Ever since its debut in the Profreshional Splatoon League, Red October has been a force to be reckoned with, speedily climbing the divisional pyramid to earn promotion into the freshly-formed S Division prior to its inaugural year and winning three championships afterwards. Red October is viewed as a bastion of hope for Inkopolis’ Octoling residents, who still often face spiteful discrimination from some less tolerant Inklings. Sadly, while Red October has never yet been relegated, the team has not won a title in a generation, and many are wondering if it has already passed its pinnacle.
Scouting analysis:
Throughout its long history in both the Octoleet Splatoon League and the Profreshional Splatoon League, Red October’s chief strength can be summed up in one word: power; namely, offensive firepower is its main advantage. Its slayers are quick, agile, accurate, and deadly, while its supports and anchors are tough, powerful, long-reaching, and not afraid to push very deep into the opponent’s territory. Any opponent whose defense is ill prepared to meet Red October’s multiple threats is usually swiftly routed. Therefore, it is no surprise that this team is usually among the league leaders in both splats and knockout wins, if not outright leading. Red October’s own defense and neutral game, although less often mentioned, are not to be overlooked; this team will doggedly hold its ground or obstinately protect a lead better than most other teams can.
