Description My entry for this year's ElfQuest Fan Calendar; it was chosen for November. The calendar in its entirety can be see here: ([link] - I hope that link works without having to log in), and it's available for purchase from ElfQuest's CafePress store here: ([link] ).

The theme this year was "Finding One's Place" (finding where one belongs). The title is, "The Stories I Could Tell".

It struck me that I liked the fact that Pike seemed to grow into his role of storyteller and howl-keeper over the course of the series, finding his place in that niche. And, it also struck me that in any society, telling stories about the past is one of the main ways that children are helped to find a place in their culture, and certainly wolfriders, with their love of stories and Howls, are no exception to that. (Did I mention that I work in a folklore dept? ) I chose Venka and Tyleet (rather than another set of children) because of the great line that Venka has at the end of KOTBW: "The wolfriders finished my upbringing. They did not teach me to hate." So I wanted to show how she would have been influenced as a child by the wolfriders' stories, and how that was part of what made her into the person she grew into.

Brush-pen and fine-line pen inking; Copic marker coloring; lots of after-effects in Photoshop.

Congrats on making it into the calendar!
This is an amazing piece ^^ You captured a part of Pike that is often too well hidden under a stomach full of dreamberries.
Love his rosey cheeks!

Thank you! I love the fact that Pike enjoys his role of howlkeeper so much. And I like how that fits in with his love for dreamberries. While I'd hesitate to say that it makes his fondness for them seem "practical", it does give it a dimension that isn't just "party boy", which I think is nice.
