Thank you. Someday perhaps I'll color her AND perhaps do more Kyssa sketches.

Thank you. I've wanted to do more Kyssa pictures for a long time. I also want to try coloring some prints. I have it in my mind; I'll have to see if it will reach the page someday.

I really like the lines in this!  It can be difficult to scan pencil images.  I just fav'ed a tutorial on the subject, but it doesn't help with improving shading, which reflects the light and comes out an uneven mess.

Thank you! I appreciate the compliment very much. The original scans were rather light, so I tried something in Photobucket that worked on all of my lighter scans.

However, part of the trick on some of my sketches is that I drew them on tracing paper. Lines do not bleed, and I can do some shading with the touch of a finger or even an eraser; a slight touch can do a lot.. I also do ink sketches on tracing paper; there isn't a "bleed" with the line that happens on porous paper.

It's difficult to preserve the original though. Sometimes I have been having to trim edges so it will fit in a mylar sleeve. I've been very bad about preserving my drawings. If they weren't for fanzines, I just stashed them in a folder or notebook, ending up with them scattered. I've been trying to find them so that, when I get my scanner hooked up, I can add to my gallery. Maybe I'll finally create a portfolio.

Yes, well, about that trimming to fit a sleeve, it's also annoying that sketchbook paper is usually 9" x 12", while scanners are limited to 8.5" x 11".

Thanks for the tip about tracing paper.  Do you place a piece of blank white paper on top of the sketch when you scan it?  That should improve the contrast by increasing the whiteness of the background.

I've been using Sharpie on card stock with very good results -- very little bleed.

I'm so sorry that I didn't see your response till now! I wasn't ignoring you; I just have trouble reading through messages and responding to them. Mainly it was because of my very poor vision; in December, I finally had double cataract surgery and am still learning to get along with my new vision. Also, I have many chronic illnesses that often disable me from reading and writing.

Yes, I do place a blank sheet of paper over the image on tracing paper. I found a place in Photobucket where I can darken the lines more so that they resemble the original sketch more.

Sharpie on card stock sounds interesting. I'm not sure where I would find the stock to try it; I'm not sure if Wal-Mart has it, but that's the only place I can go since they have electric carts (something I'd love to have but can't because of lack of transportation for it unfortunately).

I have assembled a variety of art supplies, including some old material. Thank goodness it doesn't go bad as long a it's stored fairly safely. My right hand is betting better! Maybe I'll try to draw only as large as I can scan except that I'd love to do some larger works. Maybe I'll have to settle for photographing it with my digital camera. Electronics don't seem to be very suitable for transferring art to the Net.

Oh, don't worry about the delay in responding.

I'm not sure what kind of card stock I've used sharpie on.  It was provided by the instructor of the Zentangles class that we took.  The official Zentangle cards have a bumpy surface, almost like watercolor paper.  I would imagine that "mixed media" paper would work, too.

Our local Walmart is quite small.  I don't think it carries art supplies.  I haven't bothered to look since we also have a Michaels nearby.

I understand chronic illness.  My wife has struggled with many challenges very recently.

Good luck!
