Thank you! I was quite pleased with how it turned out. I'd love to do more male fantasy characters, especially sketches of my original creations.

Thank you!
I hope to be able to do more sketching, as I would love to do more mystical males, including mermen.
I have an image in my mind ofΒ a Kelpie~in both forms.

A Selkie would be interesting, too!
My Kelpie is very young and playful and really needs to be brought to life in drawings. Like my merman, he's been a character in Alter Egoing, which is similar to RPing but is much more complex. I always meant to create a portfolio of my original characters; so far, I have only a few.

Thank you! I had hoped to keep working on a planned series of mythical males. I kept seeing so many female fairies, mermaids, and other lady-critters back then thatΒ I wanted to focus on males from myths and legends.Β He was a preliminary sketch, and I planned to add more detail~and a complete moon. At that time, I didn't have very large pieces of paper to work with. Heck! I barely had any art supplies!
Not long after I came to this site, I treated myself to a couple of sketchbooks, including a large one with plenty of room to expand drawings. I hope I can get a workable right hand so that I can return to creating some images. My brain is full of them! I just hope they'll get to the paper in reasonably good shape. *giggle*Β

I hope you can soon return to art too! I agree, there aren't many merman at all. What I like about this piece is that it still retains his masculinity - yet it's beautiful at the same time.....For so long this myth was solely a female thing; and I guess it just shows in some of the other works I've seen of merman. Yours stands apart, and favored for this obvious difference.

Thank you! That's exactly what I wanted to go for: a beautiful but very masculine creature. I have such a weakness for long-haired males, if that wasn't apparent from most of my sketches and Favorites.
I wanted to do more of him, some in a more-traditional pose. I'm still surprised that I was somewhat successful at capturing the head/face position. I wanted him to look as if he was "sounding" and want to give it other tries, perhaps making it more of an explosive emergence. Perhaps at night, he's keeping it more subdued.
I would like to work in color someday though I've always enjoyed pen/pencil.
Thanks again, especially for the encouragement. MORE MALE MERPEOPLE! *giggle*

Ooh! I like that interpretation! I wonder the sort of mate he's seeking. Oddly, I never pictured a mermaid; my brain is too full of gorgeous males! *blush*
That really makes me want to give him a complete moon to respond to, and I'm beginning to picture it in color. I haven't painted for many decades, but a friend sent me a set of color markers of a type I've never worked with. I'd like to do a treatment of him and of my "Myst Moonstruck as Flame" drawing.
I really need to do a series of mythological males! *sigh*
