Woo, I did a watercolour-styled Velveteen Rabbit picture. The Velveteen Rabbit has been one of my favourite stories since childhood, and I maintain it's one of the greatest little stories ever written. It's beautiful. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do a drawing based on it, because I didn't think I could emulate the style used by William Nicholson in the original book's illustrations - and there really is no other acceptable version imo XD

Anyway, I decided to give it a bash, and I have to say I'm really happy with the result. I used my own copy of the book as a reference, so I'm happy to say the colours are all entirely my own, which is rare for me as I'm usually trying to get characters' colours accurate.

Originally I wanted to draw the Rabbit being held in the Boy's hand, but the shading on the boy was just not happening, so I gave up on it. Kept the outlines though, so I may attempt it again in the future.

The passage is a section of my favourite two pages in the whole book, and they really capture the essence of the whole story, also titled, 'Or How Toys Become Real.' Copyright of the passage belongs entirely to Margery Williams, and no copyright infringement is intended by my borrowing of it for this picture.

I drew the whole thing from start to finish on Livestream and three people turned up. Screw the rest of you () and thanks to KashimusPrime , DJ88 and Werebereus for keeping me company.
