Description DA, and other stuff, has put me in a really bad mood. So I'm going to preface my comments with this:

Sexual comments and banter are not welcome and will be hidden. I am also not interested in critique at this time. I'm really not in the mood for it.

I would also ask that you read the description before saying anything.

Anyway ... on with what I was going to say:

Garderna Mizay has been recently appointed to the highest rank of Isepian military and government. She is the newest of the 12 Hazas and has moved in to replace the legendary Haza Lodis Malak (not an easy man to follow).

Next to many Isepian women, she's a little odd. Most notable is the fact that she doesn't tie up her hair. It takes a long time and that's time she doesn't like to waste. To some it looks sloppy. To her it looks like good time-management. Having those extra two hours a day actually works for her because she's managed to rise from Private to Haza in just under 100 years. (Harder than it seems.)

The truth of it is that Garderna just uses those two extra hours for art or sleeping. Her art is calligraphy, which is not one of the more popular ones. And even in this she is a little odd. She doesn't use the formal tables and supplies like others. She just sits on the floor, uses whatever brush catches her eye that day and pre-dilutes the ink instead of mixing it as she goes along. And this appears to work for her as well. Her art hangs in the six Solar Temples. In the Temple of Death two of her large-scale works hang on either side of one of Sha-Eris Solar Flower tapestries. When he saw that arrangement, he saw something in her strokes and composition that caught his attention.

What he found when he looked closer was a young private who had fallen from a sand-crawler 500 years ago and got her legs crushed. She was fated to weak legs and a severe limp for the rest of her life. When he went to see her (from a distance) the first time, he expected to see a woman in retirement. But what he found instead was a woman who had taken almost 400 years off and perfected her art, then ... because she wasn't satisfied, bought herself some large-scale leg braces -more like small mech legs, and re-enlisted at her old rank. She was then Major Mizay leading her troops on large legs wielding oversized swords to match the height and reach of those legs.

In more formal situations she has smaller ones she can wear, or she goes without and limps. (She is known for being particularly aggressive to those who dare to have pity on her.)

Sha-Eris was very happy when he heard she was a General. She was, from then on, in his sights to be the next Haza. Some would consider her appointment risky. He, however, knows that her different way of looking at things is just what the table of the 12 Hazas needs.

It's been speculated that his interest in her is more than military and judicial. They both welcome those who say so to come forward and say it publicly. Either of them would be willing to defend their honor in an official challenge. There have been no takers and the rumors dried up quickly.

Okay. That was long enough. Sorry.

A very poised woman. Strength just oozes from her, although she does seem to be giving that piece of art a rather critical eye

Oh, she's the queen of perfectionism. But it helped her get to where she is.

I like how others think she is being odd, but she believes she is being practical. I mean why bother with your hair if you can gain another two hours ina day? That just makes sense! It' s no wonder she got to where she is. She follows her own rules and doesn't bend to peer pressure. And she doesn't let her handicap stop her.

I like how she looks like she's contemplating something here. And being on the floor is comfortable here. The way her robes just drape around her is lovely and shows the softness of the fabric. I also love all the writing in the back;it really does show what an art it can be. And the brush behind her ear is just a great touch;I 'll bet the other calligraphers don't do that either!

I really like her. I like how she thinks and it's interesting to have an "oddball" to give some perspective and really see things diferently. Her interest in caligraphy is cool too and I really like how no one character is "perfect" and yet just awesome because of that.

I like her hair philosophy! Imagine how many hours, days even of life you'd save by not doing up your hair. Anyway, she looks contemplative but also quietly powerful with that sitting pose.

I'm pretty much the same way when it comes to hair. I've not had a hairdo that requires more than brushing it out and being on my way.

Thanks very much!

First thing - that robe draping is beautiful! So flowy! Dare I say it's the best flowy material you drew? 8D

That out of the way she's one great character! Love how you showed her during her morning ritual :3 Nice details on those leg implants and ingenious shoes! Would love to see her in her techno legs :3

Wouldn't want to be on her bad side - she seems really ambitious, strong and determined - for sure she would hunt a man down and bring him to justice before he has the time to think what he had done 8D

I must say I really enjoy your venture into Isepians story

I would love to see more artwork of her done. there is something about her that draws me to her face I'm not sure what it is but it is extremely beautiful. again I think you're done a fantastic job on this. by the way I really love the garments that you put her in, your style of fashion when it comes to designing characters is really spectacular.

Lady-Tempest [2011-09-08 05:06:56 +0000 UTC]

She sounds like a tough lady, and if the Hazas do what I think (act as government) then it's likely she needs to be.
I quite like her outfit and the colours of it, I also like the pose.

I swear I start to wonder about the most random things, in this case:
I wonder what she's looking at, if she is pleased with her work. She sounds like she might be a bit stubborn, and if it doesn't turn out right she might just scrap it and try again... but the next thought was 'Is the common hairstyle of Isepian women complicated/ornate? '

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NuBearEull In reply to Lady-Tempest [2011-09-08 05:19:07 +0000 UTC]

Yup. They're government and highest military command.

Thanks very much!

She's looking at a little warm-up page. The poor woman is doomed to see only the mistakes in something others would consider a masterpiece. But such is the way of some artists. And if she doesn't like it, she'll either send it to be recycled or sell it. Any art made by a Haza is a hot item on the markets.
And the hair?
Average is something like this: [link]
Something for the super rich and fancy woman is like this: [link]
Women do their hair to indicate age, social status and all that other stuff. It's almost like a secret language. So the fact that she doesn't do it at all makes her extra weird.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lady-Tempest In reply to NuBearEull [2011-09-08 05:42:37 +0000 UTC]

I hope the mistakes she sees causes her to push herself and get better, even if some of them are minuscule or imaginary.

Not participating in a social convention like that must draw a lot of attention. Reminds me of a friend in a catholic school, they had certain ways to wear parts of their uniform to indicate if they were dating and all sorts of other information. I was glad I didn't have to remember it all, but if you grow up in (or get used to) a culture like that, maybe it's not so hard.
I can see why doing your hair could take a while for them. Maybe, eventually, there will be some other high ranking/powerful woman who will stop fussing over their hair as a status symbol. Or perhaps they'll just think that Garderna is powerful enough that she does not need to style her hair to prove it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NuBearEull In reply to Lady-Tempest [2011-09-09 19:22:32 +0000 UTC]

That's pretty much how she takes it. She can be very competitive, but she is smart in that she only lets herself compete against herself.

Lucky for her, Isepians aren't the kind of people who would make her into an outcast or even ask her about the hair. They just note that it's different and mark her as someone to observe later.

Given her status as a Haza, I think more women will start leaving their hair down. Hazas are icons to their people and she is the youngest. Something is bound to happen.

Nah. It's not odd. The planet they live on is mostly sand. So they have wider soles on their shoes to distribute their weight better so they don't sink.
