Description Taiwan Railways DT560 is a 2-8-0 Consolidation built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) from 1920 to 1921. The locomotives in both China and Japan were unable to import more steam locomotives to Taiwan due to the large numbers of locomotives in both China and Japan. The Japanese Governor's Office authorities had to use the basic design drawings of the DT580 to seek production of this type of locomotive from the American manufacturers. Although the design is based on DT580 (9600), the engine has its American style.

The construction of this 2-8-0 may look like Japanese, but a few details are American. Seven were built in 1920 and seven were built in 1921 which equals to fourteen. When they were sent to Taiwan, they were classified as Taiwan Government Railways class 600. In 1928, they driving set was moved from right to left. Their duty was to haul freight. After World War ll ended in 1945, the TRA (Taiwan Railways Administration) began to reclassified all steam locomotives. Class 600 was laste reclassified as DT560. DT561 is now preserved at the Miaoli Railway Museum in Miaoli.

He is! DT561's nickname is the buffalo because he is slow! He may be slow, but strong. Neither Japan and America has an engine like DT561. This American locomotive is rare!
