Fair enough. I did this one years ago, and if I were to do it again, I think the anatomy would be more solid, including going for a slightly more "realistic" size for the eyes.

North Star? More like Northwest Star. I wish I had a stronger sense of direction.

It would be nice. After all, as a certified Dreamer, I'm certainly prepared to say that while it is undeniable that Lauren did a wondrous job of revival of the franchise, as the creator of My Little Pony, Bonnie most certainly deserves her share of kudos and adulation as well.

When u use the term "sparkle eye" ponies, what does that mean?

Starbat In reply to slayerfan45 [2014-02-10 11:40:05 +0000 UTC]
I don't believe I've ever used the terms "sparkle" eyes. It is "twinkle-eyed" or "Jewel-eyed".
I am simply referring to those G1 ponies who have jewels embedded in their eyes. Obviously, "twinkle-eye" ponies was just a marketing ploy that Hasbro used to sell toys back in the day, but there is actually a somewhat interesting story behind it from the old G1 comic strips.
Basically, G1 Applejack runs away from home and stumbles into an underground mine where an evil wizard has a group of ponies enslaved to dig up jewels for him. The ponies had been blinded from darkness of the cave. Applejack ultimately leads them to freedom, but the Jewel Wizard's jeweled throne explodes upon his death, causing shards of jewels to become embedded in the slave-ponies' eyes. These magical jewels cured the ponies' blindness, but those ponies would forever after have "jeweled" eyes.
So that's the story. In the fanfiction for which I am creating these sheets, the author developed the above story into a fairly dark and violent interpretation.

This is absolutely amazing! I love the personality depths of the g1 ponies and the style of the g4's and you bring them together effortlessly and beautifully. Excited to see what you're doing with this. (:

What picture will be done next about the G1 characters? More main ponies? The Princess Ponies? Something else? I really like how this pictures are done. The style is good, the little explanation next to their names are well made, and a big Cutie Mark next to them is a very nice touch.

This is so beautiful *0*
I have always loved the older generations since I was little and this has just made my day.
My favourite gen 1 pony is Paradise, though my only criticism for this picture is that I never envisaged her with straight hair.
I've always though it would be wavy- probably just because all ponies hair is wavy in gen1 hahaha!
Awesome work, I look forward to seeing more.

I wish more of the old characters could be snuck into Friendship is Magic.
I'd give anything to see Wizard and Paradise just strollin' in the background.
Eagerly waiting for more gen1~ can't wait to see your twilight!

If I remember correctly, Mimic appears in only one episode... in which she was dying. (no, wait, it was a two part thing, so two episodes.)
Which was odd, because with her powers, the ponies wouldn't have to resort to using the Rainbow all the time...

Starbat In reply to Persona22 [2013-10-08 00:43:02 +0000 UTC]
True. We're told that Mimic is a very powerful unicorn, but we never really see that demonstrated. We only see Mimic in that one episode, and she is out of commission most of the time. So other than that back story about her heritage, we don't know really anything about her. Which is a shame. I imagine such a character would have a lot of potential. But then, I guess the G1 writers were never all that ambitious, with a couple of exceptions.

Well, in retrospect, it is actually kind of eerie that the whole point of the story is to retrieve the four horseshoes or Mimic will die. It seems like the whole purpose of creating the character of Mimic was to make have a character that will die unless certain magical items are retrieved. Why didn't they just have the four horseshoes be important for another reason? Why did they have to throw Mimic's possible death into the whole thing? Kind of "dark" for a cartoon in the 80s that was aimed at little kids.
Like that other episode with the wish gone wrong that causes it to never rain again, and we see how all the Hipocampus ponies were dying from dehydration! I remember seeing that episode with my sister, and at one point she was crying asking me if the "swimming ponies were going to be okay". What was up with that!?

Haha. Cute. Kids are so sensitive. XD
Yeah, I guess now that I think about it, G4 never really deals with the possibility of death. I guess you could say that G1 was a bit "darker" in that sense. I guess 80s cartoons just weren't as conscious of this kind of "political correctness" for kids. But I think that's a loss, because death is a reality, and if you have that in kids shows, it demonstrates that you are to some degree taking your audience seriously. I think that's a good thing.

Persona22 In reply to Starbat [2013-10-08 21:05:41 +0000 UTC]
Yes, you got a point there... then again, I don't remember other shows doing that. Even in shows that fired guns all the time, like G.I. Joe, Spiral Zone, The Centurions...
In G.I. Joe, not even once one of the good or bad guys died... so it was My Little Pony that showed us that people could die, but not G.I. Joe...

Starbat In reply to Persona22 [2013-10-08 22:12:19 +0000 UTC]
Well, there was the threat of death, but I don't think anyone ACTUALLY died in G1 My Little Pony, except for Tirek in the series pilot. And ultimately they toned that down too, for the rest of the series. The series pilot was the best part....

Persona22 In reply to Starbat [2013-10-08 22:34:46 +0000 UTC]
No, of course nobody ever died in My Little Pony. But we see Mimic fading and are told that she will completely fade unless they find those 4 horseshoes. She would be dead if not for those things, we, as the spectators saw it, were told about it. She didn't and we're all happy, but she was CLOSE to dying.
In G.I. Joe, on the other hand, we have people shooting at each other all the time, nobody gets hit, nobody gets sick, nobody is ever even close to death. Even if they were in situations of war, "death" was never an issue. Is not even mentioned as a possibility, NOBODY would die in a firefight, not COBRA, not the good guys, nobody dies, or gets close to dying. Ever.
