Description This is a concept image for a large VTOL cargo hauler. We jokingly called it "the flying dump truck" because it looks quite a bit like a large dump truck.

The arm hanging beneath is a heavy mechanical grabber used to hoist some very large objects into place.

The vehicles were largely designed in 3D, which allowed for them to be used in numerous concept illustrations of other scenes without the need to redraw them.

3D is a very powerful and effective design tool I have been using extensively for a number of years now.

How big is that in meters? Amazing art and concept!

i saw a 3D anime once, appleseed or appleseed ex machina, maybe. reminds me of a scene where they reprogram a trash hauler to take a stolen item they tossed in the trash off to a distant place where they'd pick it up. wait no, it was Cowboy Bebop im almost 100% haha and the hauler was smaller than this. oh well its still a nice design, as you know im big on non-combat vehicle re-imaginings.

you keep saying 3D but you never mention what software you're using

and awesome work! i love the design and texture

Sorry about that I generally use Lightwave, although I am familiar with a range of software.

I'll have to start including that information - although I think you can achieve a similar result with any one of a dozen programs. I use Lightwave because it's (for me) very fast to get the result I'm after

And also - Thanks! I'm glad you like the "flying dump truck"

i've seen some lightwave work being done on youtube but never got a chance to try it. i've used c4d, modo, maya and now i am sticking to max. but i always wanted to try some lightwave and softimage

I go through phases of trying software - and as far as I can tell they're all really excellent. In the end, I tend to swing back to using what I know, it allows me to focus mostly on the content. C4D looks great, haven't tried it. Modo I use and plan to use for more stuff whenever I get the chance to really dig into it

yeah modo is an awesome program, i left it though because it did not fit the work flow i was hoping to have. max seems to make me happy

I don't know max - but I've worked with a lot of people who do great stuff with it.

If it makes you happy, that's what counts

Awesome attention to detail, one of the reasons i like your 3d work so much is the believability of it all (albeit with fancy hi tech engines and stuff ) ....ok i see that someone else just said that, well i second it then!

Thanks, I appreciate it

I try to make stuff functional - at least in terms of where engines are and things like that. Most of this stuff does require the **revolutionary breakthrough** power source to run it. I don't think any conventional present day turbines could generate enough force to lift something like this massive truck.

And if they could, that VTOL jet-wash would also blow the crap out of anything in the vicinity !

Harriers are great for stripping asphalt off a parking lot

Gotta love the "revolutionary breakthrough" power source it's such a staple in scifi

I think we'd better get to work on that - or we'll be riding around on yaks in the future

Move present to the future and not lose their share of realism and consistency. Its clearly seen that this vehicle is designed so that really works.
That's another thing that makes me love your designs. There are other authors who merely make great spacecraft, not serving at all. Here the use of the vehicle is fully compatible with reality.
