Non, elle n'est pas facile, en effet. Dommage que j'ai encore besoin de refs pour ce genre de poses. M'enfin je suppose que c'est comme ça que ça vient...

Again, I really love your coloring style. It's so unique and so beautiful! You seem to have a great handle on anatomy, and how to use posing to really convey a story/character.
One thing, with the way the background is so detailed (the sky part), I think that the ground is a bit plain. Perhaps some texturing there would be a nice balance for the whole piece? I think it would really help pull it all together. Granted, I know very little about SAI, so I'm not sure how hard it is to use, etc.
Thank you for sharing, your style is so lovely and elegant! Great work!!

I use references for the moment, which helps a lot to learn how the human body has to be positioned, etc (which is something I had never properly grasped when I 'only' found examples in anime/manga, alas).
There was some brush texturing on the ground, but it got kind of squashed when I downsized the picture for web display. SAI is not hard to use in itself, but I have way less brushes than in Photoshop, so for the moment I'm not sure how to do things differently. I suppose I'll learn later. ^^

SAI is pretty nifty for linearts, which are done on special layers with vector-like tools, so you can easily touch them up even if you're almost finished with the rest of the picture. I find it more limited, on the other hand, when my drawings include geometrical shapes (or maybe it is that I haven't found the right tools/functions yet for those...).

I see. Is it on par with Adobe Illustrator? I've heard things about that, too...

Hm, I'd say the uses you'd put them to are different. Illustrator is really for working in vectors, with a few raster options (filters...); it's also much more flexible when you need to draw geometric shapes, duplicate them along a defined angle, etc. SAI would be more like a raster software with a specific kind of vector layer allowing you to create and touch up your lineart with a Pen tool. In the end, what you get with SAI is still a raster image, while Illustrator produces real vector files.
It really depends on what you want to do with the software ("colouring" in Illustrator has to be done way differently), if you have a tablet or not (no need for tablet in Illustrator, you can work easily with the mouse), etc.

Wow, that's a really excellent breakdown. Thanks a lot!
I think I'll have to play around with both these programs sometime and break out of the Photoshop bubble...

Yeah, each software has its strong and weak points. I find SAI better to blend colours, but on the other hand, there are way less brushes to toy with (well I guess custom brushes do exist, I just don't have them?).

No problem, but I would still get rid of the collar bone because it looks like she has only one massive boob now. That's why in my suggested revision I sloped out the chest and lined it up with her out-stretched arm.

I'm sorry! I really am only trying to help. It is possible I may be nit-picking, but if you can get that last little part everything will fall into place. I promise. ^_^

XD

Here it really does go a little beyond what I am trying to point out, I made some rough alterations in photoshop: [link] When I altered the boobs I had to fix the arm, when I fixed the arm I had to fix her back and the clothing top, and then I decided she needed an ass job and decided best to stop there. LOL.

Hahaha, yeah OK I see better XD Well thank you for pointing this out. Now that it's made even clearer, I must really try to fix it, at least a little.

There is something really wonky about the anatomy in the pose, it almost looks like illusion of some kind and I think I know what part of the problem might be. With the hip tilted as it is and posture of the spine with her arm up in the air looking back at you should not be able to see both breasts. I think a side boob shot would take the mystery out of the pose, basically remove the crack(s) of the cleavage and form one side boob.

Hmm I think I see what you mean, yes. Possibly I'll try to rework the boob part, and see what I can do with it.
Even working from real people references isn't easy, I see that now. ^^ (Aaaah, so many years spent drawing from anime/manga... Now I realize that my knowledge of human anatomy is more than imperfect once I'm out of the traditional "standing, seen from front or side" T_T)

I may very well go back to a more anime/manga-ish style later on, who knows... But first I definitely want to learn proper anatomy and (as you said) dynamic poses. You can draw nice 'anime' style if you know that, but the contrary is often not true...
