Finest Hour - Card Number 70: Doctor Hooves

“We don’t really follow. Who?”

Starswirl thought for a moment, as they passed an empty hallway.

“Ahh, I suppose he has changed over the ages as well. He talked about going into hiding for some years after the changeling incident, but not for this long. Does the name “Timeturner” ring a bell?”

“Why, yes, it does. He lives in the town, handling the watchmaker shop. Wait… was HE around over a thousand years ago? Impossible!”

Applejack got up to the side of the Twilights.

“Ya know, Twi, considering you are talking to someone who WAS around a thousand years ago, while a horned amphibian scientist, your past future self and a parallel universe version of Pinkie Pie are walking with you… Is it really that impossible?”

Starswirl cleared his throat.

“I shouldn’t really spill every pony’s secrets here, I mean, I have already blurted out about the changelings and Nightmare Moon, but let’s just say he knows a thing or two about time, and is willing to share. Or at least were. Thousand years is a lot of time.”

As they passed through the gate into the swamp, the evening sun bathed the entire ruin and swamp in a red glow.

“Ahh, outdoor again. I can’t wait to stretch my wings.”

As Rainbow darted around the ruin entrance, Rarity shared her joy, but also had a few other concerns.

“Right, Rainbow, I can do nothing but agree. Sure, the swamp was terrible, but the ruin was even worse. Tell me, Starswirl, on our way here we lost one of our friends, a Pegasus called Fluttershy. Do you think you can find her with your scrying? She should be around here.”

The elder stepped forward unto the top of the steps leading down into the swamp, and gazed out into the swamp.

“Hmm, I don’t think that will be needed. She is right there. But you didn’t mention her alicorn friend. Nor her strange robotic… thingy.”

“What?!”

They joined him at the stairs, and as he had said, at the edge of the swamp was their yellow friend.

“That alicorn. She looks almost like…”

As Starswirl shed a tear, the others were more surprised than saddened.

“Princess Luna?”
